Some of the plot points are fairly lame:
Why would they outlaw immortality? Did it just take a lot to obtain it, or did you have to hurt others to obtain it? It seems like immortality could be useful, why give an immortal the cold shoulder?
Why not just alter the past to save the future? It seems to me like any other alterations it would make to the world would be relatively small to, oh, the end of the world.
