Also it turns out that what I thought to be (fairly obviously!) the last dungeon was not. Not sure if I'm even close anymore. I've got all of Mario and Luigi's battle skills but I'm still missing one of Bowser's. But I may have just missed it somewhere. All signs point to me being near the end but it wouldn't be the first time a game has just made the last part drag on even when all of the major sidequests are completed.

The last level is you climbing a fairly small tower to fight a Dark version of yourself. The second to last is some airway thing. And the third to last is like 5 floors of Peaches castle (I thought it only had 3? D=).
So I'm guessing you're on the 3rd to last.
