Well, let's take a look at it.
brother/sister: only slight variation in genes
cousins: 50% of the genes are from the same source
2nd cousins: 25% of the genes are from the same source
Third cousins: 12.5% of the genes are from the same source
I think the cut off for incest is second cousin. So if you have a common great-great grandparent with somebody, they're still free range.
