It takes about 10.6 low grade diamonds to make a mid-grade, and about 12 mid grade to make a high grade. So about 127 low grade per high grade, if you do it that way.
If you just refine, you get a 1 in 20 chance of high-grade, so it's better by 6-fold.
This implies that low-grade would be worth 1/6 as much as ungraded diamonds, if the market is anywhere near sensible, and if they're worth more you should just sell them and buy ungraded.
