Most people I know, including myself, would say the superior gameplay greatly justifies the cost, and its been cheaper than Maple was to me in the long run as well, WoW is good while it lasts, but endgame gets stale to me.
I tend to drift between games, and play Maple in between.
WoW's graphics shouldn't be critisized, they're ingenious on Blizzard's part, if you have a high end PC, you can crank em all the way up and WoW'll look great, whereas low end PC's still get the experience of WoW without having to upgrade PCs, it expands their customer base a lot.
