WoW vs Maple Story
#28
Kabanaw Wrote:Man, pretty much this. I still play other video games, but playing any other MMO would be betraying the game I've played since the 7th grade.

If that's the case then you'll be stuck to maple forever. The more time you spend on it, the more of your time that is wasted when you do eventually leave. I haven't quit maple, but there's too much crap going on in it right now that I would rather not risk my hard work to an asshat. WoW is very very enjoyable to me. I've always begged for a challenge in maple that I have never gotten. I'm sure you've seen me drooling over the challenge Nexon promised when they released CWK PQ, only for me to peach about it later about how easy it was. I mean c'mon.... I got the second pendant in Scania with a ragtag group of randoms that got half annihilated because no one knew they were zombified. WoW gives me the challenge i've always wanted and then some. I want the perfect char in any game I play, but in WoW there's so many different variances to everything that it blows me away. Gear and builds should be built around each other and WoW even lets you "dual spec" which opens up the door for twice as many possibilities. Even after you have the "perfect char", you're still nothing without amazing control when facing another person.

Zpyke Wrote:elitistjerks is a site for theorycrafting. I warned you not to get too much into it. First off, it changes too much to stay constant, 2nd off, you only need the basics. There's no "best spec ever" as it's always changing and each has their pros and cons. (For your class, maces do more dps than swords but pull much more aggro, and dagger/sword hybrid is generally best for pvp.) Also, don't post on that site. elitistjerks, if you didn't get it by now. And the ms community is rude too at times, often ruder depending on who it is, but they just don't get banned/infractions.

I know elitistjerks.com are a bunch of elitist jerks, but they have a bunch of helpful topics. I don't even halfway understand the things they're saying, but I know I will if I keep looking into it.

So anyways, generally I prefer WoW for strategy, and ms for weird-ass content. Btw, it's worth it to make another toon specifally to run the WC (wailing caverns) instance. It's a 3-5 hour instance depending on your levels. Generally closer to 5.

Wailing caverns is a 3-5 hour instance? I solo'd it at lvl 42 bringing a guildy through it in about 2 hours lol.

I myself have about 20 addons. Once I get my new keyboard piece, (and make space for them in my room) I'll be able to play WoW again. Too crowded in my room to play before that. The thing about gaming gear like a good keyboard and keypad is that it helps manage those bars and skills, along with selecting friendlies/mobs faster.

As for what your class is good against, you generally learn quickly as you die or get damaged. You usually say to yourself, "oh, I could have done this or that," and as you try more and more things, you learn how the pace goes.
As for rogue, they're good against everything, as long as you don't pull aggro. =D In PvP, just avoid tank specs and other class dps specs. What I mean is, rogue vs rogue is a fair fight usually, but shaman, warlock, deathknight, etc, specced for dps will usually win if they get off first hit and you can't ambush/cheap-shot. So most classes have their own uses. Shamans are generally guards, killing things quickly, so they could be considered, and palidens are buffers/tank.

I thought rogues were the kings of PvP but that's definitly not true. They're pretty much only good if they can get that first hit. Opening up with cheap shot to stun or garrote and hope you can slow with sinister strike (i'm combat build) is the easiest way to win for me. Another strategy that works for me against melee/heavy armor classes is to dual deadly poison, open up with garrote > sinister strike > and rupture. After that I vanish and walk away. With dual deadly poisons I can usually stack 3 or 4 (sometimes 5) by the time i've gotten in my rupture. 3 DoTs and they can't find me = game over lol.

I've put a lot of time into ms too, but WoW is worth playing as well. Also, unless you're high level or spend lots of time farming for mts, or have a good guild to help you or play with, you'll get bored fast without spending money. On ms, you can easily spend more nx than you would on WoW. A month of WoW is 15k nx, and there's no tax in most states, so consider how many active months you've played and how much money you've spent on ms, and divide it by the months. That's basically your monthly fee for ms. And before you reply saying it's free because of the mts, I just noted that at the beginning of the paragraph.

Yah.... I know people who easily spend $100 a month on maple without even thinking about it. I stopped spending money on Maple a couple months ago, but when I did, I could easily spend 10 dollars a week on 2x without even giving it a second though. I love the $15 a month WoW costs to be honest.

It's worth trying. A lot of mmo's aren't as good as WoW. There's Eden as well, but there's basically nothing to do except fight other players or mine (literally) resources. And that's only after you've trained your pilot and gotten the large amount of money for it. Other mmo's are WoW cookie-cutters with different playstyles and usually missing raids, instances, etc. EQ is a good rival, and that's because WoW copied EQ. =P

I played Dream of Mirror before and it's a great MMO. It's almost like a fusion of WoW and maple. It has the mechanics of WoW, but the community/animeness/cute faces like maple.

In all actuallality, FFXI, which I've tried recently, is a lot like ms in that it's grinding to level. But you have a lot more to do, hundreds of bosses and thousands of mobs. And it has a mascot. If we're talking about different mmo's FFXI is a bit better, though the interface is horrible.

Anyways, /boredrant.
