Lloyd Korn shuts down MapleStory hackers.
The hacking epidemic started with the release of Zakum (May 2006) via the Zakum Jump quest, in Broa at least. It continued for at least 18 months before Nexon began patching hacks.

Hackers caused prices to go way down, and thus made life for maplers easier. Most people only think of hackers are the annoying people who steal channels and stuff, but that's not all they do. They also help out the game tremendously in the ways that people don't usually think about.-

Yeah, you're right. Ignoring the stealing players' maps, and releasing WZ editors that are specifically designed with harassing legitimate players in mind totally is acceptable because they deflated the only way to make a profit off of HT.

Actually, I'd like you to list some of the ways hackers "help out the game." The only one is really they rapidly deflate the value of meso, which, in turn, makes training easier.

Quote:However now, the economy is what it is. Have you not noticed the dramatic deflation that took place over the last few months? That is the result of hackers. Without them, the prices would inflate TREMENDOUSLY. I remember a few years ago Ilbis were 22mil. Then they went down to about 16. Then 11. That was all over the course of a year or 2. Then within a few WEEKS, they went down from 11mil to like 5mil. (All of this is based in Khaini).

I remember a time when ilbis were 40m and 50m. When NLC was released, they shot down to about 25m. People finding more of them, in addition to the monster in Leafre dropping them, caused deflation. Not hackers. People who were hoarding them (mostly hackers, and maybe merchants) then started to sell them after realizing that they weren't going to be worth much ever again.

Quote:In short, hackers have done good and bad to the economy, but right now, if hacks were to be gone forever, say goodbye to your mesos. Because you'll have to spend a lot to buy throwing stars, level 110 items, ETC

Not at all. Throwing stars would NEVER inflate to what they were before, unless hackers hoarded them. Nobody buys 110 items, except for warriors really. The alternatives are better, and 120 items trump 110 by a long shot. By "ETC" I assume you mean Gene 30 (and TT 30), which did deflate due to massive hacking. However, Gacha box event deflated it far more than hackers did.

The only good thing hackers have done for this game is post information online so we can figure out how game mechanics work. I've played since Nov '05, so I missed Beta. However, beta is irrelevant basically.
