I can confirm it's not only for boats. Everytime you change to a map that has a different music than the one you've been alttabbing at, then the background music will be heard at the maximum volume in the system options. (eg. Eos Tower 101th floor and Abandoned Tower has different music, If you alttab and the leader gets you in the PQ, you'll come back with the music on) same goes with Window Mode, btw.

Just click on the small "v" box in the BGM option twice. 1st time you click it will be back to the default volume, 2nd time it will mute.
