Let's say you're just a normal person. Undoubtedly, you will have friends, many of which are girls. Now how many of those girls love you (as in true intimate love, not love as in "since you're my friend I must love you")? Some of them? A fraction of them? One?
Essentially, it boils down to chance and if it does happen, then he would have spent so much more unnecessary effort than had he just asked her out properly the first time.
