Paladins advantages are... being able to stun. That's it. Unless monsters cast annoying status (eg. seal on CGs) and have enough HP that they take more than 2 hits to kill (again, CGs) they will be better for Mages.
And mage is the only job that get a ridiculous boost off onyx apple. Yes the ultimate make it easier to train, but when it come to boss, any job just take an apple and they ks u really bad. And why keep claiming the skill is borken. Do you took a look at the total exp needed at lvl 18x-19x. If people didn't had bishop/archmage with ultimate to split and get some decent exp, they would just end up loosing more people much sooner. Since apple are broken for mage, we need to train way more lvl(like 40 lvl) just to catch up on non magician job.
I know paladin is at the bottom of attacker, just ahead of mage, but it sound to me paladin is playing maple on hard mode, seriously even in 2nd job, from what I hear it wasn't easy neither. Atleast they made the best training map, weak to the elemental paladin use.
So maybe ultimate make it too easy, but it barely making up for the extra 40 lvl needed to do something decent in the 4th job compare to non magician.
If a mob is lightning weak you just don't need to use ice demon. You better get 150% dmg on your cl that will hit 3 time, by the time your ifrit only hit once. If you really need to freeze mobs, just use ice strike. Want an exemple, at viking, using ice demon just make killing slower for single mobs.
And a solution to exp, if by a chance you could get to split with a bishop at newtie. I mean you could just act like other attacker do with bishop and just kill bottom and still get some decent exp off the bishop.
Only thing I don't enjoye of combo is that it require full focus to get something as decent exp, while with blizzard even if you slack off it's still good.
You should also give a try at skele.
