Taking a break from Etrian Odyssey II, picked up Etrian Odyssey IV while it's still on sale on the eShop so I've been alternating between it and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Forgot how fun EOIV was in terms of "wow you really can do any party setup and it works".
Honestly they're not so much scary as they are tedious and frustrating.
EO felt like the game completely started over every time you started a new Stratum (The first fight in the 2nd Stratum I had ended up with half my party dead and the rest of them at 1/3 to 1/2 HP, while the stuff in B5F of the 1st Stratum barely posed any threat) except without the 1st Stratum's lack of experience from random encounters.
EO II isn't so bad but there's actually more grinding involved because every class has a skill dedicated to stat ups (HP Up, TP Up, STR Up, etc) and quite a few skills require x level in x Up as prerequisites.
