Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Discussion
Lamato Wrote:The CPUs have AI depending on how you play against them. I assume you've played your Japanese copy longer than your NA one so your CPUs probably have a very noticeable variation in difficulty. Constantly rolling, shielding, grabbing, charging smashes, etc. are some of the few things the CPUs can learn to pick up on. CPUs can be annoying to go against for most players who don't know the match-up well, and they're especially more annoying in this iteration due to their frame-perfect counter spamming. The best way you can try to improve would to just learn how to string combos together so they are helpless in hitstun. Giving them time to punish you by charging obvious smash attacks at high percentages won't do you any good most of the time, you have to kill them more creatively, taking advantage of your character's strengths (ex. Ness's bthrow), or locking them in hitstun from a series of combos.

Also, I remember training my CPUs back in Brawl to be absolute monsters so that I could have somewhat of a challenge offline. I'm so going to be doing the same on the WiiU version. (I acknowledge that Amiibos do it better)

That's pretty cool. I never really knew that for sure, though I've always believed it was the case myself. I was always told, however, that the CPU doesn't read inputs (obviously prior to the 3DS version's release - I haven't even touched Smash in 10+ years) by everyone I've ever had conversations about Smash with online. Of course, I never grew up with any gaming buddies in real life, so it was only my own experience that brought me to my conclusions.

There's no need to cock an attitude. I'm just stating my experience. lol

As an aside, it turns out I can't play Melee or Brawl until the new Smash for Wii U bundle comes out (unless I want to go buy a new GCN controller, but why waste the time and money?). I don't know if my Wii is retarded or if my controllers are shot (which I'm thinking is the case, because they're as old as old gets and insanely worn out to boot), but I can't play the game properly anymore. At first, I thought it was just that Melee and Brawl had awful responsiveness, but the more I fiddled with it, the more I figured out that it's probably my controllers. I absolutely cannot perform multiple actions at once with my hardwired controller. I can't roll, I can't dash attack, I can't do aerials with the A button (this sucks for single player mode), I can't do tilts, etc. and all actions have insane lag time before the game reads it. My wavebird seems almost just as shot. It can perform a little better than my hardwired controller, but it still suffers insane lag times and I can't do certain things with it. It requires multiple inputs for a single attack (I found myself spamming the same button up to 5 times to get a single action out) and there's no way I can go against moderate AI, much less another player with this.

It kind of blows, because I want to start playing Melee again. I hear the Dallas scene is pretty good and if I can get back to my old skill with Melee, I might consider looking for local players.
