It's quite easy to gather support when you are what people see as a "self-empowered independent woman". When that is the case, no matter how shitty your product, people will eat it up in scenes such as indie gaming, because it makes them feel good when they think they are working toward a cause. Because they don't care about games, they care about causes.
As a person with suicidal depression, I can say that fucking game is absolutely worthless and more importantly a mockery of the entire issue; people have the freedom to put out whatever horseshit they want, but that didn't even deserve acknowledgment as a game, much less a steam greenlight. It's even less of a game than Gone Home, and that is a feat in and of itself.
