besides what dustin said, the gym's all have to follow a specific type, and the e4 has to follow a theme, so it's not like we can run our overkill "what the hell are you doing to a newbie!?" team, so battling, even if you're not very good can be quite interesting/informative (and if you've never tried competitive, this can also give a brief view of how that world plays)
