Played the game for about 6-7 hours on and off. And about 4 of those were co-op with my friend. Definitely has the makings of a good game, having said that: it has a lot of tweaking and changes that need to be made. I found that the first few levels of the game were the most ball-busting hardest and once I got to about level 4, leveling became a lot easier. I don't know how I feel about that. Usually it's easy first, then harder, not completely flipped. I also feel like the first dungeon areas around the first town near your spawn should be made easier, as the first hour or two of the game we were just getting pretty frustrated. The game also needs some sort of direction. I know that it's kinda like Minecraft where you just set out to to do whatever the hell you want, but with the game being more focused on RPG elements, it needs SOME kind of direction. We had ONE guy in town mention an area farther out in the map, he marked it for us, so we traveled there and promptly died in seconds from the enemies there.
I also feel like there needs to be some serious work on the classes. And yes, I am aware that he plans to add more specializations and a more elaborate skill tree by the full release. But as it stands now, Warriors are just ridiculously difficult to enjoy the game on. Rogues are almost in the same state, however one of their specializations--Ninja--which allows them to dodge all attacks when using a special attack, makes them a little easier to play. As it is now, ranged classes are just by far better and more fun to play as, and not NEARLY as frustrating. Don't even get me started on a Water Mage. After my friend got off, I started a solo character--a Water Mage--to play. I was able to take on groups of red-lettered enemies, of which me and my friend weren't able to even kill together (and we were both level 5 with appropriate gear), by myself at level 2. It's ridiculous. You can attack yourself to heal yourself, or if you are near the splash area of the enemies you're attacking, you get healed, the special attack is an automatic KO/knockback attack and it does decent damage, you begin to attack faster and deal more damage the longer you focus your attacks on an enemy(ies), AND they get a skill that heals them constantly until the MP runs out, so I can go back to full health instantly if I'm in need of it. As a level 2 Water Mage, I was able to take down 4 red-lettered boss enemies (two in dungeons, which I also cleared entirely out by myself), when my friend and I struggled to even kill a single one (he's a Berserker, my other character is a Ninja).
Finally, some bugs I came across:
- Holding down the "o" button instantly fills up your MP bar for some reason
- Hitting the left CTRL button freezes the game (maybe this is a pause button? perhaps it's intentional if it is)
- If you are holding a 2H weapon, if you have a 1H weapon in your inventory you can click on it with the middle mouse button to equip it, even though you have a 2H weapon equipped and dual wield them, which gives you an insane boost in attack strength
- The respawn system in general. I don't know if it's working as intended or not, but even if it is, it needs fine-tuning, because it's absolutely dreadful. Whenever I, or my friend, would die, we wouldn't respawn at the nearest respawn area (those angel statue things), it would just be entirely random. I recall walking past an angel respawn statue and died like two feet away from it by an Insect Guard, my friend killed it, I hit respawn and instead of spawning right there, I spawned so far away that I couldn't even see his icon on the map anymore. What the hell?
With all that said: yes, I know it's an alpha, which is why I'm just stating my thoughts on the game so far. Like I said, it has the potential to be the next great "Minecraft" game.
