It doesn't register your time unless you have killed something. If you are logged in for 5 hours, the first kill you make will register the FIRST bonus. then it will start counting for the second one. When you make a kill after another hour, it starts counting for the third one, etc. I have been logged in for 8 hours and only been on the first bonus before. Killing something is a trigger.
