Preorders don't really mean a lot beyond the initial shipment. Going by preorders, wii u was going to be sold out and we all saw how that ended up. I think the internet reaction is probably a better judge of how well this will do in the long run.
Besides that, we still haven't actually seen a ps4, nor do we know a lot of the features/policies that sony is taking. So I think thats more of a contributor as to the low ps4 numbers rather than any sign of xbox success.
