I actually enjoyed Tails with a mech 'cause it deviated from pseudo-sonic gameplay while developing what Tails is good at - engineering. If anything, he should be able to call his mech and use it for big fights and stuff.
No. No. NO.
Cut that out right now. Sonic adventure 1 and 2 were ok at the time. People generally agree they aged like the gigantic turds they are. The future is sonic colours + wisp style powerups gameplay, not rehashing the same 10 stages (well,11, lolhotshelter) like in adventure with random crap that has no place in any 3d platformer.
