The new Masteria is all flat maps. It's very artificial and boring. Masteria was an adventure everywhere. You could wander around in the confusing Phantom Forest, where danger lurked in and around every corner. Or you could take a trip to the Krakian Jungle and hunt some Electrophants, hoping to find a Diferium Fuel Cell to take to T-1337 to make some 10-second 700 m.atk. potions. Or go kill some Gryphons to add another Jungle Lily to your collection so you could eventually have enough to upgrade that Taru weapon you've had sitting in your inventory for months. Then you can head over to the Crimsonwood Keep, traversing the dangerous Ascent and avoiding the deadly Menhirs, to go slay the Versalian Windraiders, Stormbreakers, Firebrands, and Nightshadows, obtaining their badges to exchange to the raven ninjas for valuables. As you continue your climb you encounter the Crimson Trees, stained with the blood of the long arduous battle long ago. Their wood is valuable, used as material to create powerful weapons, courtesy of the expertise of the Raven Ninja, Fiona. Ascending further, you encounter the Typhons, whose feathers are also ingredients that Fiona needs.
What I dislike about KMS's Masteria are almost all the same as what I dislike about GMS's alien revamp:
1. Map Simplicity
2. Monster Simplicity
3. Hub/Linear Map Connection
The original Masteria was amazingly creative. There were enormous hilly maps, mountainous jump quests, and dangerous cliffs that you could fall from to your death. There were hidden caves, a maze, and map intersections where you could choose your path to explore. The monsters did new and rare things; some flew, some had incredible damage, some were anchored in place. And the monsters were all placed in equally fitting maps that matched their function. Typhons were placed in maps where the player could be pushed off, and Bigfoot was placed in the maze where unsuspecting travelers would come across it.
Now, combine all of that creative game play with an epic storyline... and no wonder Masteria has so many fans!
Then, in comes KMS... To see them alter Masteria like this, to destroy every amount of originality that ever existed in it, even beyond the desecration that GMS committed with the alien revamp... it hurts to watch.
Honestly, there's a lot to list about the former glory of Masteria.
Girasol, if you're truly interested in this, and if you truly do have influence on what's going to happen, make sure it's done right. Make sure that all of what has already been done is restored to its pre-destruction status, and that everything that was originally planned gets finished. I am sure you will find that the Southperry community will be more than happy to assist you in dredging up the dusty old archives of all that. It's a shining example of the brilliance that made this game special, and I know this community is filled with those who are overjoyed at the possibility of this greatness breathing a new life into this game.
The Alien invasion update's impact on Masteria can be likened to a cherished park being trashed and destroyed, with a lemonade stand being put up in its place. The lemonade stand is really small and could have just been put across the street. Also the lemonade is very watery, and not even made from lemons. And you can't actually purchase a glass of lemonade, you have to purchase a one-dollar ticket to spin a wheel that may give you a glass of lemonade or something else. Oftentimes these glasses of lemonade will actually be unwaxed paper cups that contain sewer water, but that's okay! You can combine these paper cups for free to get a chance at getting a paper cup filled with river water. You can combine those river-water cups for a chance to get a cup filled with purified water, but in order to combined purified-water cups, you need to buy a one-use fusion ticket for fifty cents. Maybe if you're lucky you'll actually get a glass of lemonade.
Now do you see why we miss the old days?
