Eh. I think it's more the idea that bots have inhumane reflexes, as well as lack the ability to think of new tactics on the fly. Least for me in DoTA, facing bots makes you really want to fine-tune your last hits since they can deny their own creeps meaning no gold/less EXP for you. Also, trying to face enemies by yourself tends to end in you get brutally murdered by synchronized swimming levels of damage and crowd controls. However, exploit their AI pattern and you got an easy win in the bag most of the time. But I'd agree however that bot matches are more for trying out and seeing what X can do, not so much how to perfect playing X.
