For the most part, they got well planned original content with cultural relevance while GMS got some unholy fusion of existing pirate classes from outer space... and reskinned from TMS (iirc) at that.
Jett most likely came before dragon warrior because I remember that official screenshot of dragon warrior in the character selection screen of TMS and the job was called JETT lol.
