If Nexon Released a "Revised" Server, How Would YOU Like it to be Done?
I think this will be my last post in generating discussion. I'm liking it though.

Locked Wrote:My limit circumvention idea isn't great because I haven't had time to refine it. I still believe my other ideas are good and are how the game should have been in the first place. The original topic discussed removing the cash shop as an example, which is like I said retarded.

I don't know which post you're referring to but the original post mentioned removing -aspects- of the cash shop and even mentioned removing cubes as an example. Regardless of how great your ideas are (which I think are great too), I'm more interested in what steps you would take the current state of the game that would be more popular but generate as much money as cubes do now.

Locked Wrote:No, because that's appeal to authority. I already explained that model that pioneered on evil has already changed by different competitors. This means that MapleStory is running on an outdated platform of the Free to Play model and they will never change it because they believe it is working fine without thinking of the long term effects that it might possibly have for the community. Consider how many people are sick of Nexon's bullpomegranate as a statistic.
Although I misused the term, it still doesn't change the fact that your original statement was idealistic. Rolleyes

How would you explain Maple's success in Asia? (I recall GMS being the worst out of all regions in making profit but the other regions are continuing in success... I just can't find the source...)

IMO, GMS' failure is that it's being translated rather than localized to accommodate for the players, market, and culture the game is being featured in. Like, for example, grinding for hours is simply not fun for almost anyone in Global.

Minor digression: NLC was a terrific attempt in localizing GMS to our needs and wants but it was stopped. May have been too costly to continue exclusive development... we'll never know.

Locked Wrote:Several? LoL is a DotA clone, and the only ones that have changed their models would be HoN and DotA2, the latter which has relatively good success because it's published by Valve and has an already existing fanbase. Team Fortress 2 wasn't always free to play and it was Valve's first attempt at the free to play model which it did so in a different manner than Nexon has done it before and it succeeded. Steam supplemented Valve's success because it's how it got the massive amount of popularity and fanbase along with the Half-Life series.

Idk, I only hear about Riot and LoL because of their prominence in eSports. Valve can be successful with almost anything they do so DotA2 doesn't accurately apply. I know there were other games in this genre that "failed" but I just can't put my finger on it...

Would TF2's f2p model survive without Valve or Steam behind it? What about if 6 other prospective TF2 F2Ps released around the same time?

There are so many Korean MMOs: can Maple really pull off a TF2 with so many other MMOs out there? Is that not considered risky?

Your suggestion is supported by TF2's success but how much of that can be attributed to their F2P model and not the backing of Valve? I doubt Nexon can get a backing like Valve can and I don't think implementing that model will achieve the same amount of success.

Locked Wrote:Nexon can challenge that, I don't see why they're unable to. Nothing says MapleStory can't generate profit through a different manner than gambling their players, there are several successful ways to make money that thousands of people have already done. Why does MapleStory and Nexon seem to be so backasswards with their own system? Because they're afraid of taking silly risks and it will backfire in their face eventually. Even now we're essentially in a roadblock with Angelic Burster and the like breaking the damage cap, the game has no more challenges or boundaries that it can break with the way it's currently set up both as a program and due to the result of their cash system.

That's arguable. For all we know, Nexon laid out the best courses of action and took the decision that will make the most money no matter what and playing with people's psyche via gambling seemed to be it. Knowing how successful they have been this far, they probably have more plans beyond Burster which we will have to wait for as soon as the last Hyper Skills release. The moment things actually change is a big tell that the current model wasn't profitable anymore; if it hasn't changed, we can only assume the opposite.

Locked Wrote:Just because my change wouldn't happen due to Nexon's incompetence doesn't mean that it's unrealistic. Like I said in the first sentence, I didn't read other people's replies so I don't know what they were saying.

It's really difficult to say Nexon is incompetent because apparently they keep getting richer.

It's unrealistic to not account for Nexon's greed. Rolleyes
