This is pretty awesome, though, holy crap.

The problem with biological technology is that those systems are inherently non-durable and only work because they are constantly rebuilt by the cells. Even if those tapes contained the cells/bugs themselves that produce those proteins there's always the issue of resistance to temperature and shortage of substract.
