That's because everyone thought appeasing him was the way to go. Horrible idea. That's NOT what peace talks and negotiations are supposed to be. Also, way to go - proving the "all arguments on the internet eventually lead to nazi/Hitler comparisons" theory yet again.[/COLOR]
That wasn't my intention, peace talks don't normally work without people fighting first.

Quote:"until the underlying problem -the region's poor governance - is adequately deal with, there will be no sustainable peace."
This.
I would feel less... "irked" about this movement if the end of it was helping in the development of the country (a long term, lasting solution) instead of urging the world to do something/anything in order to I don't know... feel like "something" has been done?
Really, the problem is not doing "something". The problem is doing something and following it through. You kill Kony the bad guy, then what? Leave the surrounding areas in turmoil and crap over/ strain the regions that have undergone some degree of improvement/development over the past years? Then ten years later, cry about the troops that still have not returned home or be forced to face the army that you trained/equipped all those years ago during that period of governance instability?
What's the other simple solution? Pour money... somewhere? Haiti anyone? (Yeah, Haiti still exists. It did not magically vanish after the earthquake).
While making people aware of the problems out there is not wrong, utilizing the misinformed opinion of the people to pressure the government of developed countries into taking some undefined course of action just doesn't sit well with me. And it's stupid.
Plus as other well informed people have already pointed out, there are ways which every person can use in order to support Uganda + other hundreds of similar regions that does not require the presence nor direct action of governments and that can contribute to the long term development/stability of the area. Sure, your 5$ will not instantly rid Africa of madmen, but it might just put a textbook into the hands of someone out there that will hopefully allow him/her to learn stuff and contribute to the development of his/her country.
Anyway. Point is, hundreds of undeveloped regions to this date are still going through similar problems for various reasons. It's impossible to help anyone by oversimplifying things and remaining ignorant of those reasons. No help is better than bad help, or something like that.

Seriously though, I shared the video because I thought it was interesting and at the very least informative. I can't say I have an opinion either which way of whether this is the right or wrong thing to do, but I also believe doing nothing solves nothing. At least this has a chance to make change, regardless of whether people agree that it's even worth it.

Sorta surprised no one actually brought up this:

That one telegraph article claiming a different situation in Uganda is an interesting take indeed though.

That's the whole point. In this particular case, the view "doing something is better than nothing" is being debated. What will doing something do? Kony isn't really a threat to anyone right now, nor will he be in any foreseeable future. The video's problem is that it's not informative at all; it's spreading misinformation. The issues it portrays are old news.
Change is needed. That's a given. But the change that this campaign is going to bring about is not the change that is needed. Uganda doesn't need a stronger military, and Invisible Children doesn't need to be a bigger non-profit. What is needed is for Uganda to have a system in place to root out corruption in it's government and military. A organization who's campaign is to raise funds for that military is counter intuitive to that goal.
EDIT:

Ok, some of that stuff I can agree with. But the fact remains that they decided to focus on the more militaristic approach rather than emphasize the work they do for local communities and education. They also focused on Uganda for god knows what reason, all the while, Uganda still doesn't have a present problem with the LRA.
Still stinks of fish to me. Just slightly more accountable fish.

...I think SOPA was a little more realistic and handled much more appropriately than this is, that's a very stretched comparison

It's actually pretty much the reverse. Most of everyone paid little attention to it until Wikipedia and Google intervened, and then it just exploded. This situation is that of everybody jumping on to it initially, but now some people are starting to keep their hands off it

My point was that it was handled and realistically could be handled. This can't be.

Yes, because me being a pedophile automatically makes me a horrible person who has no moral fiber or notion of right or wrong. Clearly the fact that I've determined to never have sex due to that fact is immoral, and being too uncomfortable to even into public because I am psychologically damaged to the extent that I myself feel I don't deserve to be around kids because I've been brainwashed by people like you, is not punishment enough; I should also have to listen to the moral pedestaling of every person who is uncomfortable with my preference on the entire internet, too. That's totally fine, just dump everything on me without a second thought.
It takes a pretty long time for me to get genuinely angry at someone, but you've been nitpicking at me every chance you get for quite a while now, and it's getting old.

Wish I knew how much of that is actual truth.
In our case, and many other central and south american countries, we have a "sovereignty and national autonomy", however, only on paper.
As far as I know, there's no such thing as sovereignty and national autonomy in most third world countries.

I'm sick and tired of the annoying rallies on 4/20 (worst day possible to do it), they're never going to happen and they're just ways for facebook whores to be "popular".
So, my cousin and I decided to mess with people.
Cue the Smoke Benefit Concert to Support The Homeless Children- KONY 2012.
Happening on 4/20.
Anyone in the triangle area who has annoying friends who are doing this KONY 2012 pomegranate is free to PM me with their names and have them invited.
So far, no one who isn't a pothead has figured it out. And they all can keep a secret.

It's okay, at least you're the bigger man and not cracking on him for being dumped. I know I would have.

Sure, let's ignore that guy. that'll surely make things better.
I'm not going into the merchandise thing. But the idea is not to sell T-shirts. It's to make the guy famous, instead of one of those stupid copy-paste singers nobody should be caring about.
If there's a way to change things, is not to attack the guys with petrol to steal it. It's to help those who need it more. And Africa... Africa has the most twisted people you can ever imagine. And I'm not talking only about Kony. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
And don't sell me that stupid "Nothing will ever change". A hundred years ago, the world was nothing like it was today. And in a hundred years, it won't be like it is today. It's how we act what will trigger a way or the other.

It's funny because it went from SOPA -> Invisible Children -> Hate on Invisible Children. A bandwagon of hating the bandwagon.

Pretty weak observation. It's great to spread awareness, for something we've been dealing with for nearly two decades, really, it's completely necessary and appreciated!
...Then there's the people acting like this is a whole new epidemic, trying to do this or that, for a video posted 2 years ago. It was simply refreshed. Majority of it is front no substance.
