Heidi Wrote:Atheists believe that there is no God. They are unable to prove it therefore it is a belief. Come on. You really think there's a big bearded man chillin' up there and judging your every move? You think he can really conjure up storms and earthquakes when he's mad at people? Myth busted.

Heidi Wrote:Where did I say he causes earthquakes and storms when he's mad at people? I didn't. People commonly say "Damn! God must be pissed at them!" whenever a natural disaster hits. What if those other Earth-like planets have life on them? Do they believe in a god? Do they believe in the god that people on our Earth do? Is there a cosmic god convention where the gods of multiple planets come together to discuss what the idiots on their planets have been doing?

Atheism is not a religion.
The underpinning of it is NON-BELIEF. Of course you can manipulate any non-belief into a belief by saying "Oh, you don't believe in X, so you believe that X doesn't exist!" And bullshit that "Atheists believe that there is no God. They are unable to prove it therefore it is a belief." Have you ever heard of something called the burden of proof? Here, let me make up fifteen trillion "gods" that you can't prove don't exist. Hurr hurr hurr hurr hurr. Go get some fucking proof or leave.

Im sorry but my religion is a way of life... and that includes morals... in fact, it revolves around morals, and of course god. Religions encourage morals. and thats what its all about, be a better person.

Raul Wrote:Atheists just don't believe in any higher power, and that's where atheism stops. If atheists actually followed this core principle, I would agree with you. But the vast majority of them do not. In a perfect world where everyone does what they say they are going to do and nothing more/nothing less, then you are correct, atheism would not be a religion. Atheism should not be a religion, but people have made it into one.

Atheism should not be a religion, but people have made it into one. See, the thing is, "believing" science isn't religion. Mainly because science is based off empirical evidence, does not promote itself as infallible, does not promise that there is some reward for those that believe, and frankly has no central immutable belief system. Those are what I understand to be the main tenants of a religion. DeanNim Wrote:That, my friend, is called misinterpretations. In most cases, i have been thought by my religion to have morals. Those things aren't necessarily moral by someone else's standards. Especially the first two.

Disrespecting woman without any ties with her is morals. okay then, whatever you say captain. Im not gonna argue about 'rewards' here. even if we don't get it, its good enough we died trying to be a good person.

Raul Wrote:I assumed that was the "spiritual belief" that you referred to. Nope. Was referring to the modern atheist "belief" that atheism should be forced upon others. That may not sound like a "belief", but when you think about it, if it is important and prevalent enough in their lives that they feel the need to passive-aggressively "recruit" others to their belief, even if they aren't actually saying "hey, join atheism" it's still the exact same thing, in essence.

I probably fall under 'agnostic.'
I don't like any of the religious institutions. I do not like how religion has basically controlled our history and still basically controls our world today. I don't necessarily disbelieve in any sort of deity, but I do not entirely reject the idea. I like to refer to myself more as 'anti-religious,' but 'agnostic' works too. Besides, if there is a divine entity out there, they would definitely be Din, Nayru and Farore.

That's a thing...? Goddamn. I grow less and less hopeful for the world when people that profess no religion attempt to convert people to their non-religion. There's a difference between getting in a religious debate and actually proving what they say to be wrong and providing arguments that they can't refute and saying "Hurr hurr al religun is rong athiests r teh kewl kidz", which is the message I actually get from most "atheists" that I meet.

I believe one of the core problems here is our need to put a label to everything and anything.

Raul Wrote:which is the message I actually get from most "atheists" that I meet. Right? I consider that a very loose form of a belief system. Real religions do it all the time, they just do it more aggressively by going door to door, whereas the most aggressive atheists just bring it up in EVERY GODDAMN CONVERSATION, which is still something a "real" religion's follower will occasionally do even if they are casual about it. Though it would not surprise me too terribly much if there were SOME door-to-door atheists. Technically these people are not "atheist", they are "antitheist", going strictly by grammar rules; they have just stolen the word for themselves, lol. |
