SOPA vote has been postponed until "a consensus has been reached". So it's not January 18th any longer.

PIPA is still in senate though.

If you can’t seem to load a Wikipedia page on January 18, there is not something wrong with your computer.

Wikipedia president Jimmy Wales took to his Twitter to announce that his website will join the ‘internet blackout’ on January 18 along with Reddit and many other sites on the world wide web. The blackout is in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA).

The bills, which threaten the infrastructure of the internet as we know it, have sparked controversy over their constitutionality. Popular sites that depend on the freedom of the internet, Reddit and Wikipedia, have been the leaders in a movement against the bills.

At midnight EST, Wikipedia (English) will go black for 24 hours. Wales is using his internet encyclopedia site to bring attention to PIPA and SOPA and rally more opposition.

Listen to Wales, kids, and do your homework now. An entire day without the source of just about everything seems unfathomable, but if it brings more attention to these unlawful bills, we’re behind it 100 percent.

The White House announced their opposition to the bills last week. Obama said that he is skeptical about the bills. Something tells me SOPA and PIPA are going to have a difficult time passing in the U.S.

Well, with so many sites going dark to protest both PIPA and SOPA tomorrow (including Wikipedia), the MPAA fires back with a statement...

...some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem to agree is very real and damaging.

You have to love the smell of hypocrisy in the air.

I think their version of the problem may be different from other peoples' version.
Namely, it's that they don't have enough money to bathe in hundred dollar bills every day for the rest of their lives.

Notable backers for the protest tomorrow are imgur and even Google (though Google isn't blacking out, but doing one of their logo changes that links to info)

if i load the portuguese version, I can access just fine

It makes sense its only for English version, this way most other countries won't be affected by it. Though I often check english wikipedia for more in-depth articles.

About the google.com, the same happens to me, I guess its IP based, and only american IP can view the censored logo.
