Unlike others, i'm a firm believer that inflation can't be stopped, only slowed.
The only solution would probably be to wipe all accounts, which in turn causes massive deflation, that in the end leads back to inflation.

Best idea in the entire thread. It won't solve the problem completely (don't think it'll ever), but it'll sure make the game a slighter better place to play in.
The only plausible solution to inflation that I've ever come across is Shikage's suggestion of taking away scrolls and mastery books from monsters, then creating NPCs that will sell these items for Mesos. 30 mill for a 70% mastery book, 50 mill for a 30% mastery book. 6 mill for 60% scrolls, 8 mill for 70%, 4 mill for 10%, 15 mill for 30%.
Alilatias Wrote:Didn't EMS try something like this not too long ago? I wonder how it worked out, anyways? Any EMSers here?
Last time I heard, everyone kept complaining for a month. I myself don't see what's so bad about it, of course if this was implemented the amount should be 10% or 15% of the mesos you got. I think the only problem with this is sellers not taking their prices down after this and instead increasing them to recover from the loss.
Remove all mesos currently in the game from the game without any warning. Disable the MTS and instate the cash-trading system that KMS has. Crack down on botters and dupers.
Ban botters (obvious)
Ban people who buy mesos (discourage the botters from even trying)
Introduce some meso sinks that are relevant to all players. We have the town medals, but those are pretty useless.
Proposal: Create an NPC that accepts meso donations. Whoever donates the most in a particular week gets 5k maple points, and anyone else who donated a fraction of that amount gets an equivalent fraction of 5k MP. Since everybody gets a prize, there's no feeling bad when you bid 300mil and someone else bid 300,001,000 - you get 4999 and 5000 MP - so even if you can't afford 5k NX, it's still worth tossing in however many mesos you want to convert to NX.
This will naturally find the nx:meso ratio and remove it from the economy. Of course, someone could be a plantain and donate 2 billion, but all they'll get for it is 5000 maple points, there's no recognition like with the medals.
The only caveat is that if the donation is less than the reward from 5k worth of meso sacks in the cash shop, no prizes will be given. But those are worth so little that massive deflation would have to occur before it became an issue.

Come to think of it, how did JMS tackle their inflation problem, anyways? I remember hearing about Neo Tokyo's equipment requiring like 500 mil to forge back when it was first released, but was it really that effective, JMSers?
Not really, because after about 6 months of Chinese Hackers/Meso Farmers stealing everyone's map so they can monopolize the market, everything is super inflated again. :X
Really, the only thing that can stop inflation is Nexon stepping in and enforcing the rules. Sadly, they'll never do that because they don't have the manpower and they won't ever have the manpower because they're too cheap to hire a team to do such a thing - any branch of Nexon.
There's a side of inflation that I don't think has been mentioned yet.
What about the supply of NX? Obviously the total supply of mesos continues to increase, but what if there is less NX per capita entering the market now? And by what if, I mean I think that's exactly what's happening. I think there are fewer people buying NX (possibly buying more individually), so the supply is less broad based and liquid, making it harder - more expensive - for meso:nx transactions to occur in game.
How can Nexon get more people to buy NX? Because, if I'm right, making it necessary for every damn aspect of the game isn't doing it.
I don't think is that, I would say that if theres a shortage of NX is due to the MTS that restricts about half of the market and the increased need for nx items such as cubes, pam songs and wards.
Alilatias Wrote:Yeah, but you'd still have to cube it though, unless you get extremely lucky. Then again, I'm of the mindset that more people would be willing to spend their money on cubes if epic/unique equips were far more easier to obtain in the first place.
Huh? Assuming I get what you're trying to say, I don't think adding an additional zero to the meso conversion or the coin cost would be a good idea. The point of a meso sink is to not only sink the meso from the super rich, but from as many people as possible. Make this thing too expensive and it shuts out everyone on the low/middle spectrum, along with the richest people probably not bothering with this.
Come to think of it, how did JMS tackle their inflation problem, anyways? I remember hearing about Neo Tokyo's equipment requiring like 500 mil to forge back when it was first released, but was it really that effective, JMSers?
I don't think that's effective as in MSEA we need 500m to forge a NT equipment as well (We still need to).
500m is not much for the richies anyway and the poors don't bother to forge them.
However, raising the price of magnifying glass last time was really effective.
NX/Meso rate drop from 17m/k to 11m/k in 2 weeks. This affects everyone in MSEA.
The rich guys cubes like mad everyday, using up few hundred million everyday just to buy magnifying glass.
And the middle range still able to buy magnifying glasses which is 1m+ each for advance and 4m+ each for premium to reveal the potentials of equips they found.
Hearing of this things EMS, JMS and MSEA do against inflation, has GMS done anything beside the overpriced NPC equips while when we sell to the NPCs we get paid way underpriced (which is something I guess every version with BB has done)?
@Above: Pirate king does that and noobs survive, so I support (although I just bought a perma meso magnet -.-").
This is what the conversion rate for the theoretical new shop would probably look like:
- 1,000,000 meso = 1 coin
- 10,000,000 meso = 12 coins
- 50,000,000 meso = 60 coins
- 100,000,000 meso = 130 coins
- 3,000 NX = 100 coins
- 6,000 NX = 250 coins
- 10,000 NX = 600 coins
(Don't mind the NX-to-coin ratio in comparison to the meso-to-coin ratio, as I have almost no idea what the ratio is like in Windia anymore, given the insanity of the past few months. It's besides the point anyways.)
I'd imagine that if Nexon were to go through with something like this, they would intentionally make the NX tickets give out far more coins than the meso conversion. In that case, in order for this to really work without the economy being whipped into even more inflation/hackers hacking even more to take advantage of this, they'd have to get rid of the MTS, and give us the KMS cash shop trading room.
This is what my theoretical shop would look like. (Note that, again, everything in here is permanently untradeable. Also, all scrolls in this shop are only usable with the equipment in this shop):
Equipment:
- Permanent +5% STR, DEX, INT, -or- LUK badge: 100 coins
- Permanent +20% HP and MP badge: 100 coins
- Level 110 armor: 5 coins
- Level 120 armor: 25 coins
- Level 130 armor: 50 coins
- Level 140 armor: 100 coins
- Level 110 weapons: 20 coins
- Level 120 weapons: 100 coins
- Level 130 weapons: 200 coins
- Level 140 weapons: 400 coins
(The 140 equips are not the same as the Cygnus equipment. These new equips would probably have like 8 stat less/5 attack less than the Cygnus equipment and won't have the set bonus, so defeating Cygnus would still have some worth, if the whole 'new equips are completely untradeable' thing wasn't enough.)
Stat Scrolls:
- 50% Special Armor Stat Scrolls: 15 coins (+3 stat)
- 50% Special Accessory Stat Scrolls: 25 coins (+3 stat)
- 50% Special Weapon Attack Scroll: 40 coins (+5 Weapon Attack)
- 50% Special Magic Attack Scroll: 40 coins (+5 Magic Attack)
- 50% +3 Special Armor Stat Scrolls: 35 coins (+9 stat, requires 3 or more remaining upgrade slots)
- 50% +3 Special Accessory Stat Scrolls: 60 coins (+9 stat, requires 3 or more remaining upgrade slots)
- 50% +3 Special Weapon Attack Scroll: 100 coins (+15 Weapon Attack, requires 3 or more remaining upgrade slots)
- 50% +3 Special Magic Attack Scroll: 100 coins (+15 Magic Attack, requires 3 or more remaining upgrade slots)
Misc. USE Items:
- 5 slot Star Pouch (limit of 2 per character): 10 coins
- 5 slot Bullet Case (limit of 2 per character): 10 coins
- 5 slot Restorative Potion Satchel (limit of 2 per character): 50 coins
- 5 slot Scroll Pouch (limit of 2 per character): 50 coins
- Archer/Mage/Thief/Warrior/Pirate-specific Mystery Books: 15 coins (includes Maple Warrior books)
I'd hope that something like this would make for an effective meso sink along with higher-end equipment deflating slightly, without the entire economy crashing into a state where hackers get to hoard like hell and benefit at the expense of the entire economy in the long run.
I truly do love this idea here. I give it my full support. It targets people who want pseudo godly items, it targets everyone with use space (especially ranged weapon classes), and it targets everyone who's in fourth job. Not to mention the prices aren't so outlandish that only a select few would even bother using the feature.
One thing I'd like to point out though. The armor would absolutely HAVE to be split into tops and bottoms. If the armor were to just be a bunch of overalls again, then no warrior or thief would bother with the armor, and archers who can't afford the unique pot scroll or mass cubing would just turn to the level 40 tops and bottoms that can be forged and fused.

I also love this idea. I liked the system of making money that Final Fantasy 12 had. Monsters didn't drop money, but they did drop pelts, claws, teeth, bones and other such crap that could be sold in the market. We already have etc items, and they only serve as npc food already, so why not just pull out the meso drops?
Here's a suggestion I haven't seen yet: Stop mesos from directly dropping from monsters.
Uhh, actually that was one of the suggestions in my first post;

If they had done just that, it would've not really affected anybody.
But they just cut your mesos depending on how much you already have and they didnt cut what people had duey'd, so hackers had plenty of mesos :/
Leading to most rich legits(me included) being royally buttpineappleed.
And even then that wouldn't change much, it'd just make most items cheaper for a while untill it slowly climbs back up.
