#1

For anyone that doesn't know what Amendment 62
As a the site against it describes it
As a the site supporting it describes it

So discuss?

you didn't even state what "for it" means, what the law means; you didn't give us anything to discuss. you just linked something you saw somewhere and attached a nonsense poll. "for it" could mean that you're for them keeping it or for them being forced to get rid of it. i'm not going to read two long articles when you can't even be bothered to write a single paragraph to present it.

Read what's in the links, vote, discuss your opinion on why you voted.
I figured that was implied or are you just being obtuse?

If you're not going to bother reading what's in an article why should i care about you or your opinion. If you don't want to vote, then don't. If you don't want to sacrifice 5 minutes of your day to read something because that takes to much effort, then don't.

I didn't drag you in here and force you to do anything. Go be an ass in the funhouse or angry dome.

i say their bodies, they can do what the hell they want to it. forcing people to have a baby that they didn't want in the first place is just wrong morally, especially if it's from sex that they didn't want in the first place.

I'm not adamant on my stance on anything, but i really run on morals. this is just morally wrong.

The rape victim part bothers me, but the other thing that bothers me is the part about miscarriages. That part is absolutely outrageous. Questioning a mother's legitimacy of a miscarriage when she just lost her unborn child? They're probably devastated enough as it is. That said, I'm completely pro choice to begin with.

you don't seem to get the point. you've made this topic attempting to start a meaningful discussion and/or argument without actually doing anything. you can't post a topic and a link and go "discuss" without actually setting it up. i would be more inclined to discuss this if i knew the op actually cared about the subject but it's obvious that you don't as you couldn't be bothered to post anything beyond two links, "discuss" and a poll that you still haven't taken the time to explain whether or not the amendment is saying that all raped parties should be forced to have abortions or be forced to keep the babies or whatever it might be since you really just posted a needlessly flashy title and admitted it in the first line of your post. this is extremely lazy topic making.

do you not have an opinion? is this an assignment for a class that and you're looking for some opinions to plaigarize? explain your position so people actually have something TO discuss.

Pretty sure you can discuss something without an initial point. He linked us to two articles and asked us to give an opinion on them. I gave mine. This contributed to a discussion. If you don't care about the amendment, then why come here? It's a pretty weighty issue, and those of us that are interested wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to at least gloss over the articles.

i would like to discuss it if i knew the person i was discussing it with had an opinion. making a post isn't a discussion and this topic isn't how you start a discussion. this silly argument that shouldn't be happening is closer to a real discussion than this topic because i presented a point and am willing to elaborate on it and so on and so forth. that's what a discussion is based on. you shouldn't wait for someone else to pump up a discussion for you. the fact that it's a weighty issue makes his dropping it here and then running off even more unacceptable. you can't run into a room and shout THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO MAKE ALL ABORTIONS A NECESSITY and then sit there and watch as chaos ensues.

and since i'm derailing this thread so badly, i'll make a relevant post

i am and always have been in the middle when it comes to abortions because i believe a person's freedom of choice, especially when it comes to their own body, is the most important thing in the world. however, there's always extenuating circumstances like the boyfriend/husband wanting to keep the baby that get in the way of me being completely pro-choice, because it's not fair to them to lose that life. however, with the issue here being one of rape and keeping the baby, i think it is fundamentally unfair to attempt to force a woman to birth that child and with it the painful memory of her attack. the woman didn't make a choice that got her pregnant and is in no way responsible for this child. i support the choice of abortion in this case, though it leaves a lot of doors open for women claiming to have been raped in order to get an abortion without being judged.

i still haven't read the articles so i might be talking about something completely off topic because the op was unable to properly name his thread.

I'm not for this amendment in particular, though something less extreme would be alright. Banning birth control should not happen, it helps prevent abortions. Also, criminally investigating miscarriages would be a tragedy. But I feel as if conventional abortions themselves shouldn't be allowed. As it stands, a woman can have sex without being ready to face the consequences. There is risk in sex. If you don't use the proper protections bad things might come out of it. If you can't live with the potential consequences, don't do the action. A fetus is still human, after all. It isn't the right of the mother to decide the fate of that fetus just because the fetus lives in their body. Sometimes biology just screws us over. This is just like in real life, a parent is tasked with the well being of the child. If the parent decides to just throw their kid to the streets to fend for themselves, they'll get in trouble. They can take steps to give the child a good life that isn't with them (for example adoption), but complete neglect for the child is prohibited.

As for children by things such as rape, those are actually quite rare. To make a law that blankets over all women to protect these select few is a bit outrageous to me. Especially since the fetus had no choice in the matter either. The newly formed fetus is a human too. Just because the father was a rapist doesn't make the child inherently evil. That child, just like its mother, deserves protection under the law.

 Spoiler
This is a discussion not a debate. I as the OP do not need to provide an opinion because you are not debating with me you are presenting your emotions/ feelings/ attitude/ opinions with the amendment in question. I didn't want to post an opinion because more likely then not the discussion would have become over my opinion on the amendment and not the amendment itself.

EVERY other poster has been able to grasp this, you seem to be the only obtuse one.

But if you're so anal about wasting 5 minutes to read the articles here's a oversimplified version of the Amendment:

Basically it's makes it illegal for a women to have an abortion, take a morning after pill, or basically use any contraception that would be taken after insemination would occur regardless of how the women became pregnant or the condition of her pregnancy.

okay read the articles. they are dramatically different than what the op proposed as the topic of discussion, not surprisingly.

i find the article supporting the amendment to be grossly offensive. they use inappropriate imagery in an attempt to make people feel guilty rather than presenting valid points... a lot of it just seemed like hot air. the opposition article made manypoints ranging from contraception to miscarriages and medical emergency -- things that are difficult enough for a woman to go through without having to be treated as if she has done something wrong for something she has no control over. this isn't even about actual abortions but about everything that comes before and between birth, something that is entirely personal to a woman.

i can't claim to have gone through a miscarriage, personally, but my sister has and it devastated her. she wanted so badly to have a baby and when she failed she was crushed. why should she be made to feel any worse about this when it was entirely beyond her, and when she wanted to keep the baby? i find it disgusting that for people who claim defend human life so much to have so little empathy for those who are already here.

What I don't get in the whole abortion discussion:

If you're against abortion, ok, don't do it, -AND- don't interfere with other people who want to have one, just like the people who are pro abortion don't interfere with -YOUR- decisions in your life...

Murder removes people who have notches in society from society, thus causing harm. Abortion does not remove any humans for society.

Until a fetus can survive outside of the womb without life support, it is not alive. It is not human. It should not be treated as such.

The major supporters of abortion are religious. Religion has no place in government.

Is it ok to kill humans for as long as they have no real place in society yet or if they can't fend for themselves? Could you kill your newly born infant because it is making your life harder?

Just because it can't survive by itself doesn't mean it isn't human. By that logic many people wouldn't be humans.

There is a fine line between being helpless and biologically undeveloped enough to survive. Zygotes are as human as the sperm you flush down the toilet after you masturbate.

A baby has a place in society. A fresh fetus does not.
A baby can survive outside of the womb. A fetus cannot.
A baby can feel pain and think. A fetus cannot.

Human vegetables can't do any of those things.

The thing is, you don't define a human by whether or not they can survive. You define a human by whether or not it is genetically a human. A fetus is a being separate from the mother with its own genetic code. It is not a cell of the mother, it is a new human from the combination of two cells from its mother and father. An egg cell or a sperm cell is just another cell in mother or father's body. Before fertilization, these two cells are not a human, but just a part of a human. In this stage, you can do whatever the hell you want to them because it is still you, and not a separate human.
