win 7 MS won't open
#1
I'm trying to run MS on the home PC my wife has. It has windows 7 ultimate. I went around and did research for the usual fixes and have tried them.

I do not get error message... I just simply cannot open the game. I go to the website, click on start game and either

1) nothing happens
2) The user account controls type things asks me a yes/no... i say yes... *see 1*

I've set it under MANY different compatibility options:

1) to run as administrator
2) to run in compatibility as win xp service pack 3, 2, and 1, while running as admin and while not running as admin. I did the same for compatibility mode vista sp 1 and sp 2.

So yeah... any thoughts anyone?

The display drivers are all up to date.

Quite the annoying bugger D:

I run MS just fine on my win7 comp. Is it a firewall giving you the finger or something like that perhaps?

No firewall issue either.

Just a note, HackShield will shut down any attempts to use compatibility mode. Try running GameLauncher.exe in the MapleStory folder as administrator and click "Start Game" when prompted.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try this a bit later on today when I get the chance....

On a slightly related note: WTP @ hackshield.

Update:

I tried what you said rayquaza and still no luck. No errors no hackshield start up. Literally.... just nothing happens after the user account control yes/no question.

I'm not running as compatibility mode and tried setting both maplestory.exe and gamelauncher to run as admin. No dice. D:

Have you tried adding MS to your DEP exception list?

I've got no clue what that is 0.o

Have you checked task manager to see if maplestory.exe is already running in processes? If so, it won't run again, so if you want to try again, you have to cancel it out and try again. Sometimes the game fails to launch, and maplestory.exe doesn't close out, causing every attempt after to fail until maplestory.exe is closed.

At least, that's what happens to me.

I can't run MS after a fresh reboot of the comp. So I doubt that's the issue.

This is a curious issue....

there is always the Re-installation of the client.
Perhaps you should take a look at if annoying thing called "UAC" is still enabled, if not then disable it.

The client has just recently been installed on this comp... as in... as of two weeks ago. UAC shouldn't be stopping the program if I click "yes" for allowing it to run 0.o

Haven't tried clicking on that one (wouldn't coming to mind to try to setup the game again 0.o)... should i try it out and report results?

Add a MapleStory shortcut to the desktop and change it to this
