[Notice] Big Foot Glitch Abuse
#1
Attention Maplers,

We have received many reports from fellow players regarding the Big Foot glitch. It is indeed a glitch and we are working on fixing the error. We would like to remind you that knowingly abusing a glitch to one?s own advantage is not something we tolerate. Those caught abusing the Big Foot glitch will be punished and those who have already knowingly abused it will be dealt with.

We would like to thank all those who reported this serious issue. Your care for the MapleStory game community is greatly appreciated.

We apologize for this inconvenience

Looks like some Yellondians (Idk what else to say) Won't be getting their T-Shirts. Good job nexon Biggrin I Wonder how they'll get other people who were obviously abusing the glitch. Unless they actually track people's progress, it would be hard to tell on the older servers.

You mean they didn't realize they didn't set the boss flag on it when they were making it? You'd think they would've noticed when they were putting in all the random pomegranate as its drops.

If it's human error, it isn't a glitch. End of story.

I guess that settles it. I hope thats proof enough for everyone who said it was intended.

It's not technically a glitch, but rather in the vein of a typographical error. A mistake, an oversight, but not really a glitch.

Nice to see that they're actively acknowledging it. Glad to see that they plan on fixing it, especially since a fix to this should be easier than most problems, even if the problem can't be retroactively addressed in those who have already abused this mistake.

Then where do glitches come from?

I love how they say they're working to fix it when the solution is so simple/clear.

Glitches are unplanned interaction of code. Imagine if jump down being present in the data made it impossible to jump off of a rope while pressing down (rofl)-- that would be a glitch. This is a mere mistake of forgetting to set a certain variable in the monster's data.

Just a patch, right? Speculation is that the "Server Maintenance" are done in preparation for a patch, and we did just have one, right? I'd say a patch to fix the issue will be coming, at the very least, before when the next content patch was planned to be released.

"Unplanned interaction of code" sounds like human error to me, bad planning.

I just didn't like his absolute statement becuase it was wrong =/

And yes, unless they're actually trying to go for some kind of poisoning the boss(or bosses in general?) that isn't super broken, all they would have to do is set BF's boss attribute to 1

I don't see how they could tell people were knowningly abusing the glitch. They would have to track everyone's chat logs, because otherwise, the user could have just thought that the monster was susceptable to poison. Also, anyone who has stunned Bigfoot would fall under the list of glitch abusers since that is a glitch too.

In the nexon forums, many people have posted about it, and it was even mentioned in the Q&A before the patch even finished. If I were them, I would've taken down the game immediately ASAP for an emergency patch, just to make it into a boss. It's a lot easier than having an angry mob of maplers after you and tracking down abusers.

I disagree. It would not be easier.

Nexon has had TOO MANY emergency patches in the last couple of months. They are trying to avoid this wherever possible - it only leads to trouble, frustrated users, frustrated Nexon... etc.

If possible, they will try to hold out on a patch for at least 2 weeks, and include it with the next content. You're right - all they have to do is check a box or uncheck a box. But releasing a full patch just for that is quite silly. Even though they've done it before, I'm sure they would not like to do it again.

This means, get your toes while you still can.
I highly doubt any of the NL and BM killing it will be willing to share.

Also, the prices of the Necklaces are going to go way up. I wish I had saved my necklace. =/

Do I need to explain this again?

The fact that Bigfoot lacks the boss flag is, more than likely, not an accident. It was likely done on purpose to give us more options when fighting it. Doom, stun, full strength Powerguard, and so on are extremely useful when fighting it. With Bigfoot's ridiculous stats, like 90 speed, we need these abilities to defeat it.

HOWEVER, when they did this, they didn't think about the other consequences of setting it as a normal monster. They weren't expecting shadow web and poison. Think about the original boomer problem and this is the same thing. It's a new idea they were trying that got far out of hand. It's not a glitch in terms of technical malfunction, but more like it's a glitch of unexpected consequences.

I'm thinking they might try another solution aside from setting the boss flag. In particular, I expect that they may implement a sort of damage cap, similar to the ones on KMS Mansion monsters (You could never do more than 5 damage per hit, but naturally for bigfoot it'd be much higher). This would let us still use Poison and web, stun and doom without them going overboard. It's because they're trying to come up with this solution that they're taking so long.

They're probably only worried about people who abused it to kill the monster repeatedly for absurd experience. That would be a lot easier to notice, particularly in Yellonde, although, if they keep logs of exp gain, it wouldn't be hard to notice which Hermits/Nightlords and Mages had repeated sets of large amounts of exp gain in a small amount of time.

That's not anywhere near as gamebreaking. All that does is cut the monster's ability to deal damage for a period of time. It doesn't necessarily let you kill it faster, particularly not in an under a minute solo.

How do you figure? With no people able to instantly KS a monster we can now hunt them in peace. Sure, it will require teams now, but at least we won't have 8x losers coming in and instantly killing it while we try to wear it down to earn our keep (no pun intended).

EDIT: Isaac, I understand what you're saying, but I think that's unlikely. If they had intended it and do wish for it to still remain not a "boss", then I would think they would simply make DoT skills ineffective. Poison, 4th job Mage Demons and Shadow Web would all not work at all. If they put a damage cap like you said, they'd need the cap to be high to not hurt all attackers, but if they just make it a 100k cap, the poisoners would still be doing in excess of 130k DPS. A Nightlord would be able to crap out like 200k DPS if they use an Onyx Apple on top of Web.

Gosh.......

I wonder if its going to apply to people that Mist/Web it. o.O"

But to Yellonde people that "glitched" their way up using bigfoot (if Nexon's addressing this), then thank God - that server needed a break, lol.

But srsly - Im done with Bigfoot. I cannot go on anymore killing that thing, I actually gave up killing em just yesterday.

It is good news, the only problem I see with this is that after the glitch is fixed there will be more bigfoots out there because it wouldn't be hunted as often. Redface
