Is sour cream okay to ingest when heated?

Serious funhauz thread.
There was a semi-eaten burrito in the fridge from earlier today. I planned on eating it for dinner; but apparently, there's sour cream in it. I was always raised with everyone telling me not to heat up sour cream. I've never been told the reasoning as to why I shouldn't heat sour cream. I never did, because my family only puts sour cream on something if we know we'll eat it all, so this is the first time I've ever been faced with leftovers that had sour cream in it. I heated it up and I'm about to eat it (it's my only meal of the day), so it's too late to turn back now.

So, was I raised to think heated sour cream is bad because it'd taste funny after it's heated, or am I in for some nasty stomach pain? Google'd answers are too vague, and I need quick answers from a place where I won't be trolled (because you guys wouldn't do that to me, right?!)

It's absolutely safe. Most of those beliefs are a mutation on 'leaving it out spoils it' having been misconstrued towards 'warming spoils it' when in truth it's warmth providing bacteria the opportunity to grow over time that spoils it.

Heating it in a microwave isn't a comparable concept.

Warm sour cream is just warm sour cream. Ever had a baked potato? Nothing harmful about it.

Only, the sour cream in those places are chilled until you put them on. Even when you put the cream on the potato or taco or whatever, it isn't the same as hearing it up with a microwave. It remains creamy when you put it on something warm while it's still cold. It gets more chunky when you heat it directly(I just ate a fuckin burrito with chunks of sour cream in it, was still good though).

But it's not te same as directly heating it. Have you ever put sour cream on a baked potato and have all the liquid seperate from it, leaving white chunks in your potato? I'm sure the cream blended in perfectly. It's different when you take a chilled item and place it on a hot item. If it didn't matter, most places would just heat the cream up with the potato anyway, but every place I've seen only adds the cream AFTER the potato is baked.

In any case, I was raised with this in mind, and never questioned it because that's just the way it was. Family tells me something is bad, it seems like a fairly reasonable claim, and it's supported by the fact that my family isn't the only group of people that only place COLD sour cream on a warm food; rather than just heating up the food and sour cream at the same time. The cheese and bacon are baked at the same time as the potato, yet the sour cream is the only thing you add last.

My family is also this way with mayonnaise, but they were never strict on it. They simply told me "it doesn't taste as well heated, it gets dry", but with sour cream they actually told me to never eat heated sour cream(as in heated with an oven, stove, microwave, etc. It doesn't even get too hot when you put it on a hot food, because the cold and heat usually balance each other to make it either warm or room temperature.)

I've heard of this. Never tried it though, dunno if I want to. It's not so much the "EWWW, IT'S MADE OF BLOOD!" factor (I actually like bloody foods, and used to eat blood ice cubes when I was younger....oddly enough. Not sure why my family kept those anyway), but I just don't think it'd be too nice of a mix.

I'm not a picky eater, I'd just rather not eat something that I know will put my stomach in pain.

By the way, I've eaten chocolate covered insects when I was younger. It wasn't bad, but I didn't really like the taste either.
