Okay, I want to make an I/L Arch Mage. I have a level 200 Bishop and everyone thinks it is a waste of my money and time. But, I am looking for the positives here. I want to HT, but there has got to be a way for me to go on an I/L? Right? I don't give a crap about bossing exp. I love mages and I want to train another one. I want to make this arch mage the strongest mage in Windia or pretty damn well close to it. I have 7bil to throw into the char or more. Can someone please give me a reason to do this, and don't tell me the negatives, believe me I know them all I got a 5 hour run down on WHY NOT to make an ice mage. Persuade me to go through with it. I don't want to make a fire yet because I've always wanted an I/L. So please someone give me some help.

If you need someone to CONVINCE you to play any certain class, it's obvious that you aren't really interested in it.

Well, it's safer at Skele because of freezing, and you can 1hit kill the strongest mobs in the game, make lots of money while training 5 times faster than us melees.

If you have such strong reasons not to make an I/L and you believe in them, don't do it O.o
Otherwise, if you like the playing style regardless of how useful at bosses or anything like that is, play it.
EDIT: Not seen on basil, my bad.

A.) I never posted anything on Basil.
B.) I want to play an I/L. I just want to know what I'd have to do for HT. I am guessing beat out all the other ones as the strongest Mage? Idk?
C.) I think they will be more fun then my bishop? My bishop got dull very quickly...

If you want to go HT you need a friend who make ht runs, otherwise its almost impossible that someone takes you to their run even if you are the strongest of gms. (you know they dont like mages)
You should wait for Evans they are stronger and cooler and your chances of HT running are way better.

Evans are stronger when they have SE. Otherwise it's the same damage.
Also, Kalovale, while I/Ls can one hit chief oblivion gaurdians at high levels, they'll be able to one hit skeles before. Plus skele mobs are much more, so mages that want the fastest exp/hour will still go to skeles. That and selling leech will probably still net you more money than training on oblivion 4.
Not to say I won't be heading there. But most of the time I'll be using CL/ ice strike because the mobs are usually too small for spamming ultimates.

maybe same dmg Dark fog vs Blizz/meteo (not sure about this yet) but they have better/cooler/stronger attacks (like Illusion).
They are a better class overall.

Blizz/Meteo is at least 5x stronger than Dark Fog in DPM terms. Evan FPS actually slightly dwindles behind an Arch Mage on neutral targets (both level 200ish. Evan outdamage in all other level spectrums). Only thing Evan has going for them are support skills, and even those have a relatively long cooldown.

If I had to choose an Arch Mage to go HT, I'd pick Fire/Poison to handle the spawn. Not like either Arch Mage classes are very good attackers anyway and they are both useless at HT.
Without connections, you can't HT as an Arch Mage... sorry but it's time to get your head out of the clouds because I can not imagine any other way for an Arch Mage to be invited to HT. And what if you die? Are you really worth ressing? Even with wheels, there's a good chance you'll die when you respawn.
Anyway, you said you wanted positives?

Here's a personal story for you: Horntail isn't "fun". I was invited to exactly two runs, first one in which I dc'd during first head when everyone started attacking at the same time (no 10sec wait like in Zak), and second one, I actuall made it to second pre-head before DCing. All you do is sit there and kill spawn while your NL/BM/Warrior friends attack. Usually you have to watch your own HP cuz even though the bishops are spamming heal, your MP bar goes down rapidly. I died at the second prehead from lag. Guess what I heard on vent: "Don't even bother ressing him. He's just a mage. Save your res for later when we need it. We'll have the bishops to clear the spawn."
I'm sure IL mages are even worse on this respect because at least FP mages have an elemental advantages against the wyverns. If anything, IL is far from the strongest mage. I'm not biased. Just look at Time Temple (regrets is fire weak, oblivion is ice neutral), CWKPQ (2 out of the three bottom bosses are fire weak), Bigfoot (ice immune); the list goes on and on. ILs are the same as FPs in terms of ultimate damage with the exception that Blizzard freezes (which becomes useless when you 1hko what you're killing), but they are weaker than FPs on single-target DPS, which means overall they are weaker.
And really? You're a 200 Bishop and you don't know how HT works. Hmm...
@below: Doesn't matter. You'd still know what they do if you're not one.

I/L mages and Bishops do different things at Horntail.

You can probably do quite a great deal of damage if you just sit in the middle after legs and tail die and spam blizzard, if it's okay for you to blizzard that is. I'm not entirely sure but I think chain lightning can only hit two body parts the way it's set up, so you won't be doing a whole lot of damage with it.

Oblivion mobs are changing to become weak to lightning and ice. And according to Hidden Street, only one mob is weak to fire, and another to ice.
And since CL is a mob skill, it does more DPS than paralyse in some cases, such as horntail or zakum's arms. Hitting two mobs brings cl's DPS to 170%, and three mobs up to 219%. I'm not saying one class is always stronger than the other, but there are situational differences which give one an advantage over the other.

On 3 mobs fire demon becomes better than CL, also I've heard that ultimates have pretty good DPS if there is more than 1 target

Let's take a look at it in DPM to consider attack speeds.
CL DPM on three targets: 210*2.19=459.9*88 attacks per minute = 40,471.2 base dmg/ second
Fire Demon DPM on three targets: 140*3=420* 84 attacks per minute = 35,280 base dmg/ second
On 4 hits, yeah fire demon is slightly stronger.
And as for ultimates versus CL on three targets:
Blizzard: 600*3=1800*21=37,800
Meteo: 620*3=1860*21=39,060
On single target, paralyse is the strongest AM skill. On mobs of 2-3, CL is the strongest. Any more than that and its between the ultimates and fire demon.

I thought by 130 levels you would have realized how many inconsistencies there are. In any case, when the change comes, all the Oblivions are going to be ice-weak and all the Regrets are still fire-weak. However, even though Oblivions are ice-weak, it'll still be pretty difficult for ILs to 1hko the Guardians. Being able to 1hko the Oblivion monks is pretty useless because they're too spaced out for any good training.
Also, I have to clear this up. CL is a weak skill. It's only stronger when there's exactly two or three targets.
Last thing: Having a non-freezing summon really sucks.

Well I have no plans to use ultimates to train at Oblivion mobs. I will when there's gigantic mobs around me, but I'll generally be using CL and seal. Sure it may not be as fast as ultimate training, but I've never liked that anyways.
And it's a weak skill because it does 30 less base damage than paralyze? In that case, Elquines is weak on bosses because it does less damage than ifrit and can't freeze bosses.

Your last statement was completely unnecessary.
I never said Elquines was strong. If anything, Elquines and Ifrit are helpful in the lower 4th job for their extra DPS, but they rapidly become among the most useless skills in the Arch Mage's skillset in the higher levels. Also, I never said Paralyze was strong either. I merely said that CL is weaker than Paralyze on single target and weaker than Fire and Ice Demon on 4+ targets. I'm sure you're already aware of this. However, to put things into a better perspective, imagine this: Rick, a 14x average shadower was able to deal double the DPS I could (level 164) on Scarlion+Targa, despite me spamming meteor on them.
I'm quite amused that you don't wish to train with your best mobbing skill in a gold mine. By choosing to use seal and CL to train, you'd be cutting your experience twofold; you'd train even slower than a Shadower does. Logic says: you kill twice as fast, so you'd gain time ores twice as fast, so you'd not only earn the money you used on potions back, you'd make profit. Wasting time using meager skills just so you can save that MP is useless.
Anywhoo, we're derailing the topic.

Oh, nvm forgot that CL gets multiplied by 0,7 each hit and not 0,5 =P.
