So, is there really any good reasons for a mage to aim for level 200?
I could get echo, but that is rather useless for a magician class. Why would I need extra damage when I already 1 hit everything? Not going to need to train anymore at 200 anyway. And bossing? Arch mages are pretty bad at bosses. This extra damage bonus from echo seems to be worthless for a mage. Really, a 16x arch mage isn't any more effective than a 200 arch mage. 1 hit is 1hit.
Another one of the "rewards" lowers my motivation as well. The medal is only 8 m.atk. Complete trash compared to the medals other jobs get. 3 atk is far more helpful to an attacker than 8 m.atk is to a magician that doesn't even need more damage at that point.
Also, what does a mage DO once they reach 200? Other classes can solo bosses, go on pink bean/HT runs, etc. But again, arch mages suck at bossing. What can we do? Nothing? Sell leech while getting no exp?
So, yeah. It just seems to me that the time it takes to get to 200 (which, by the way, isn't really all that much) is not really worth it when the rewards you get are total trash.

You could use it to parent a Cygnus to give it 20 bonus weapon attack, or just wait until the new system of bless comes out to give any character on that account 20 bonus weapon attack.

Haha this thread is PERFECT right now! I've been talking with my friends on vent about these more rhetorical questions for a while now; things like, "Why play an AM" or "Why play MapleStory" in general.
Why am I going for 200? This game is so different from any other MMO that getting to 200 is not only an impressive accomplishment based on the enormous amount of time it takes, but a very individual and unique accomplishment since leveling is not such a large portion of the game with any other MMO.
In Maple, there's a lot, but not plenty, to still do at Lv. 200. For me, I love the concept of attacking with magic; I made my character to be the strongest Magician it could be, thinking this game could create such revered legends like Gandalf or whatnot in terms of character progression and development. Now of course that's completely wrong; unlike in LoTR, where Gandalf can pretty much kill whatever he wants, an AM here is outshadowed by plenty of classes at bosses. However, that doesn't mean they can't be as strong as possible, and so the big thing to do at 200 is upgrade your gear to the best it can go. It's something I know players like silverbg2 have been doing for years now, and there are now some ridiculously strong individuals out there for investing such an amount of time.
However, as my friends and I discussed, the sad con about Lv. 200 on MS compared to games like WoW is the new content that you can explore. When you hit 80 on WoW, the game is just beginning - you have days, weeks, months even of raids, dungeons, and bosses to complete, if you so desire. At 200, what is there for a Mapler to do in terms of fun, high level content? Zakum? You can Zakum decently at 120. Horntail? Again, one merely has to be 150 on average, 160-170 for AMs, to be a decent runner there. Pink Been seems to be the only place for the 180+ characters that would be a true challenge, something content-wise that's really fun for the higher level community. Of course, the requirements to get in are disgusting, and it's very hard to actually go due to 30 person requirements and a short timer, so for most that's not an option.
So what's the verdict? If you can't find an individual reason to play (merchanting, upgrading gears, etc.), find a social reason. Hang out with friends a lot more, forge better relationships, or if your social life here is fine take that time you used training to better your real life relationships. Social reasons not enough? Then my suggestion, in all honesty, is to become an extremely casual player, one kind of like people who read headline news: they stay in tune with the world and are up-to-date on the biggest stories, but don't really do much in terms of reading into the issues or collaborating with fellow peers about them. In the same sense, become a Maple "headliner": log on only for patches and server checks to try out and have fun with the new content, and as things come out that you want to do only do them. If you have HT every Thursday night, make it your fun thing to do every week and don't play past that.
For us high levels, the only true bulk of the game is done once we hit 200. However, that doesn't mean the future cannot bring fun things to do. While new content doesn't look to bright for fun for high levels based on years of patterns, that never means Nexon can't release something truly challenging and awesome that brings us all back. If all else, play to stay in touch with the game's content and the people you've come to love and respect; make Maple your second Facebook, something you check periodically but aren't tied down to.
Hope that helps!

I could instead level the other character to get more than 2 w.atk bonus.

That is quite true for a F/P, actually. I forgot about that. It is rather special to see a level 200 F/P, since they are one of the rarest classes. However, I am an I/L, and there are billions of Lv. 200 I/Ls. It just isn't anything out of the ordinary to see a 200 I/L. But yeah, I did forget about F/Ps in this aspect.

There is a point when you hit a bottleneck with equips, though. Right now, even a 5m.atk increase would cost me multi-billions. It just isn't worth it to upgrade anymore, especially since I can already 1 hit skeles.

I can't really even get into a HT run at 18x, hell, I can't even get into a zakum run. (Well, I don't try to find runs at all, but what I mean is that no one ever asks me to come.)

All I do these days is talk to people in guild, or just go afk if my guild is all off (as is usually the case). Broa is a rather boring server, imo. Broa has alot of annoying people; I hate almost all of the big guilds in the server. I considered switching servers a few times, but I doubt that any of the other servers are going to be any better.
It is almost a waste of time to even login any more, everyone I know has pretty much quit. Used to be fun to just login so that I could talk in guild, but now we are down to 4 members, with 2 of them considering to quit.

Hope that helps! Ah, I doubt Nexon will add anything challenging. They direct this game too much towards the younger players. I can only wish that they could add something that requires intellegence and skill, instead of just luck and time. I actually find messing with DPS calculations more fun than most aspects of gameplay in MS. But I don't believe that Nexon will ever increase the complexity of this game.
Thank you for a well written reply.

Hmm...
-Leech others.
-Be an echo mule which will probably get you into more boss raids if the runs full of damage hores.
-Dragon mount.
-I would say boasting rights.. but Ultimates + NLC pots = pathetically fast n easy compared to every other class.. Not much of an achievement in my eyes but might be for you so w/e.
-20w.atk BoS for another char on that account.
Thats about it..
I wouldnt be holding my breath for some exclusive wonderful high level content, bulk of the players never see past level 150 or 4th job at all for that matter so why would the designers bother keeping a minority happy when pleasing the majority is what'll keep the game afloat.

Exactlly the same reasons to hit it on any other dang class.... Just to do it. There's no brand new world that will open up when you hit 200, nor will u suddenly be a damagebeast. You get a mount, which looks even more dumb and retarded than the bishop's Bahamut, you get echo (yay...) and you get a medal. It's not as good as for the non magi, but come on 3 att more when you are 200 is not making much of a diffrence. Imo 200 is a goal because it's the end of the line of your Maple journey, not to give people some flaunting leverage. The day Nexon paired the so called ultimates of 4th job with NLC pots was the day lvl 200 became just another lvl to hit. Especially as a magi.
But more on topic, lvl 200 as a mage:
Pros: You hit 200 with way less effort than it would take for a non magi.
Cons: You are still not very wanted at bosses, because most of the community just sucks and cant get new ideas into their heads. Then again so what, I´m sure since you played all the way to 200 you've met enough people to go to bosses with anyway.

Actually, I was referring to the concept of hitting Lv. 200 for any class, considering Lv. 200 for a Magician is considered a "meaningless" achievement to many these days. FYI, for those of you who consider it pointless, tell me why you aren't Lv. 200 yet on whatever character you play. If it's so pathetically fast and easy on a Magician and you thrive for a "true" challenge, then why are you 16x-18x?
Seriously, peoples' definitions of "achievement" have gone out the window lately. Do you realize how many Lv. 200s there are in GMS? Close to 500. Out of 6 million registered players? The math works it out to roughly .0083% of the total population currently playing. If it wasn't an accomplishment anymore, then why don't we have at least 1% of the population Lv. 200; hell, even half of 1%?
The point that I was trying to make with that comment was comparing MS to any other MMO like WoW, FlyFF, etc., where the level cap is something practically expected of the best players in the game; in fact, I'd argue your average daily WoW player has at least one character at the max level. Instead, the game comes down to high-tier gear obtained through challenging raids and boss battles; there's no sense of "rankings" like there is with Maple, just showing how good of gear you have and what you've done with the game. In MS, the game is largely based on training and how much time and patience you've invested into your character. No matter what class you are, getting to Lv. 200 is no easy feat, and it's an individually impressive accomplishment to do so considering very few people can maintain full lives and achieve such a level. You should be proud of yourself for doing something many others have not done, not in just the grand scheme of MS but over the wide variety of MMORPGs out there.

Well not PLAYING LoTR....I was just referring to the fantasy saga as a whole xD. My point was, Gandalf the Wise, the White Wizard in the novels, is an extraordinarily talented and powerful being, more so than practically any other creature on Middle Earth at the end of the Third Age. My point was to contrast this fact with MS, in saying that MapleStory's unbalancing of the classes disalllows Magicians of any class from attaining such unbelievable, legendary power.
I'm closing in on the bottleneck moment as well, so I know what it feels like. I'm not expecting a Lv. 200 to spend 3 years chaosing scrolling literally perfect gear, but instead working to get to that bottleneck moment. In all honesty you're one of the only Lv. 200s I can think of at that point; most quit, sell off their gear, etc. at that level, and plenty of people simply grindfested their way to 200 without doing anything about gear and thus have a long way to go. To hit 200 with such amazing gear, to be done with questing, bossing, etc., is essentially to say you are done with the game. In that sense Congratulations! for you can quit satisfied with your achievements.

I spent a lot of time looking for boss runs and getting to know people so I'm invited pretty frequently (or will look when I'm not), so I find bossing extremely fun and rewarding. This kind of confirms what I said earlier. Have you tried putting aside some preconceptions or standards of people and gotten to know them for who they are? I don't say this to be offensive, but I almost feel like you're the type of person who feels like they know better than most people, are more intelligent, competent, wise, you name it. Why do something with other people when they'll just drag you down and destroy the efficiency you could have by yourself? I tend to think the same way myself on some things (the reason why I've solo trained ever since I could ohko Skeles at 17x), but a game like this is meant to be enjoyed with other people. I can't name a single person who is still here solely for the enjoyment of the game itself; while people may love things here or there, the one thing that ties everyone I know to the game is the social aspect of meeting new people and forging new relationships. It sounds like that can be hard and depressing in a boring server when all of your friends have left (both on BL and in guild), and so in my opinion you have two options. Either work on being more outgoing with people to create new relationships, or consider a server change if you really want to keep logging on for the sake of friends. But what you're doing right now doesn't sound like it's working, and doing nothing is probably the worst thing of all.

I'm an optimist, and while the content overall is nowhere near as stimulating as it needs to be for Lv. 200s, they have created some things in the past few years that make it still enjoyable. I think all that's left is time; again, make MS the thing you check every week for new content and whatnot if you still want to play. Otherwise, hit 200 and quit - you've done all there is to do on one character for the time being.
The choice at 200 (and honestly, any level in this game) is simple in regards to continued playing: figure out at what point you will be satisfied with what you have accomplished with the game, and choose then whether you want to keep playing, be it for social or new content reasons, or if you want to close the book once and for all and allow your experience on this game to exist merely as a fond memory.

It just isn't unique to see a level 200 I/L. No matter how much of an achievement it is, it is not something new. There are some things I have done which I think are more difficult than hitting 200, however I am sure others would disagree with me. While .0083% is almost nothing, the fact that the percentage exists means you aren't one of the first to do it, especially if you are playing a very common class. Really, I never cared about my level, so I wouldn't hit 200 just for the sense of achievement anyway. I would hit 200 for some type of reward, but echo and the medal just isn't enough.

To me, 200 is just another level, you don't earn any new amazing abilities. What they should do is give each job a special attack when they get to 200. Ex. 1000 base attack chain lightning, that would be something like a legendary power.

Most of the higher level people that I knew have already quit. I only have a few friends left, and they're all around level 30-120, so we can't really go and kill HT. I try to stay away from the higher level community in Broa since many of them are hackers, scammers, or just plain assholes. I know more than one level 200 who asked hackers to help them level. Because I don't talk to anyone who makes the runs, I never get invited to HT or PB.

I don't really care that much about losing a little efficiency. But it seems that even if you help someone train, they never come back and help you when you need something.
I would change servers, but I doubt that any of the other ones are going to be any better than Broa. Besides, lots of people hate immigrants.

I actually don't even consider satisfaction at all. I don't play for the purpose of quitting when I am satisfied, but rather just for the hell of it. Even if I was level 200 with all perfect chaos scrolled items, I don't think I would feel like I "won". Of course there is satisfaction with individual accomplishments, but I don't see any sort of final goal.

Then honestly I don't know why you've played this long. All of your responses to me have been negative, so there's nothing else I can tell you; I'm beginning to wonder why you made this thread in the first place.
Anything a person does truly means something if they let it. You're not letting the work you've put into playing this game mean anything, so you're not getting anything out of it. I'm sorry, but I just don't know what else to say. The majority of real life professionals out there do not see being the best or the first person to do something the only definition of achievement or accomplishment, and if that's the way you think then I express my sympathy to a hard life of let-downs, where you only feel worth something if you do something first. One of the best comments I've ever read in terms of self-talk and help was saying that one of the main reasons competition is horrible is because on the trip to the top, you lose out on plenty of what life really is, and by the time you get there you realize you're the only one here. I'm guessing that's why you've made this thread: you're the only one on top and have come to realize you want more.
At least, I hope that's why you've made this thread, but I assume you'll tell me I'm wrong again. Best of luck to you, and I hope you find meaning within for what you do with your life.

ZOMG LVL 200 GO GO GO GO GO .. lol im kinda running into this wall now as a 180 Corsair im like.. well no one can KS me... why bother keep going ? I prety much can never 100% ohko Skeles unless i go out and like find 30B im equips on the floor of the FM... im not going to be the first legit 200 Corsair in bera cause my friend is slightly ahead of me and ihave no motivation to keep going. So lately ive just been working on my damages and gaining money up to see if i can pop 10K max range with an apple (B> 111 max on range) working on my KoC to 120, not really traning tho. If i do keep going to 200 it will be because i wan to have a lvl 200 account and i feel that this being my 3rd account i really want to finish it off on this account to say ive done it (dont you want to be able to say you have a level 200 account?) who cares if your not the first 200 ILAM, im not going to be the first 200 Corsair in GMS nor in bera(assuming other one doesnt stop training). The fact is that you were able to perservere and get to 200 anyways and you will be proud of yourself when you do reach it and when you see those 5-30 Smegas gratsing you on 200 you will smile inside i know i will, since it will be like.. my first smega cause my friends are nx poor lol
And i have a level 200 Bishop friend who sells anego Leech and kills the thing faster than you woudl expect a bishop to do it in, factor in his MW and his 200 lvls of int and some gear and Echo and it comes out to a prety strong attacker(just weak as a level 200) and he does very well @ it even seen him ks some 140-150 NL's easy peasy so i would assume a 200 ILAM would be able to kill it at an acceptable speed anyways... + i would rather take a 200 AM on a Zak run then some of the attackers ive seen go to them before... (lol @ 129 NL's with no TT)

Well at 200 you can suicide all you want and not feel like you lost experience...I killed myself on purpose in those new malaysia theme park maps cause i can't use return scrolls .
I've started playing less and less after hitting 200...it DOES feel like a waste of experience when I'm leeching my friends...just sad to see your exp bar always at 0 even though the monsters give exp.
I currently enjoy soloing BF, sitting around town on my dragon, stalking my few friends that's left, hunting time pieces...
Honestly I picked AM cause I knew I wouldn't have the effort or time to get to 200 with other characters...I seriously feel like i train faster at 199 than trying to train on my other 13x non-mage character.
Just do it..you'll be glad you did I think.

Okay, I want to make an I/L Arch Mage. I have a level 200 Bishop and everyone thinks it is a waste of my money and time. But, I am looking for the positives here. I want to HT, but there has got to be a way for me to go on an I/L? Right? I don't give a crap about bossing exp. I love mages and I want to train another one. I want to make this arch mage the strongest mage in Windia or pretty damn well close to it. I have 7bil to throw into the char or more. Can someone please give me a reason to do this, and don't tell me the negatives, believe me I know them all I got a 5 hour run down on WHY NOT to make an ice mage. Persuade me to go through with it. I don't want to make a fire yet because I've always wanted an I/L. So please someone give me some help.

If you want to go through with it, then go ahead. The only reason (well, it should be the only reason) to play a class is because you want to.
