Dusk Wrote:Because it's a stupid stat to adjust. HP is a limitation that prevents ranged classes from walking into Zakum's body and keeps other ridiculous things from happening.
It also reinforces level limitations. HP is ultimately a trade-off, though. It does function as a limitation, but make a Hero instead of a NL and you're free of that limitation (for the most part).
which begs the question, why limit character variety to class differences only? As Stereo said, many other games have a CON stat that functions as a secondary stat. Sure you can go without it, and you'll be stronger for it, but you'll be more squishy too. If you like it that way, that's fine, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to comply to that standard.
Adding DEX makes it easier to kill stuff. Adding HP makes it easier to survive stuff.
It's pretty obvious that there's a choice involved here. Of course, in this game it's a very heavily biased choice in favor of DEX, because (as you said) it isn't required to add anything to HP in order to play the game normally. However, more HP makes some things easier/doable at the expense of other stats, and if that's what someone deems useful then they should have that option.
Dusk Wrote:But people ruining their characters like that just makes me sad. It's not a necessary stat to add by any means and people should just learn to live without putting points into it. You might as well call all warrior classes "ruined" characters, then, because they have so much unnecessary HP that they can live without.
Also, while you've listed several other options for improving HP, the most reliable and accessible will always be the up arrow in your stat window.
Dusk Wrote:That's part of being a HP-less ranged class. Level up, gear up, dodge bombs, or party. Fixed.

Warriors do need the HP they are given. It is part of their class. They need to be able to tank things that ranged classes don't have to deal with.
This game is not like other games. The difference between 4600 and 4700 HP is the difference between being able to train at O4 and getting killed in one hit. HP is not a CON stat, it's just a limiting factor that limits level of entry, makes Zakum's body a threat for certain classes, Horntail's legs a threat for certain classes, etc. Adding HP isn't supposed to "make things easier." If you can't take a hit from whatever you're fighting, you either shouldn't be fighting it or you're doing it wrong.

The fee is optional. But the quest is annoying.

The quest to get into Neo Tokyo is more than just annoying. One of the items you need drops from a boss that only a select few jobs can survive at without HB.
JMS is actually one of the main sources of most balancing issues. JMS created darks scrolls which aggravated the gap in the weapon attack and magic attack formulas. In order to restore some order, JMS created elemental wands. This only made the situation worse because it gave a huge damage boost to ultimates.
Early on, JMS probably thought the Black Crow spawning at Himes would be enough of a deterrent from people training there for insane EXP. That didn't work out and as a result, Himes were given the ability to seal and stun when Kaede Castle was released.

It looks pretty obvious to me that, if they made such a cute being like Pink Bean so powerful, they did it purposely, to make us understand that, if such a cute being is so powerful, then the Black Magician, who's a monstrous being, will probably be a lot more powerful than it. Which means an even more "almost-impossible-to-defeat" boss, the final one.
That's what I'm thinking the Black Magician will be. An even more epic fight against death. Hopefully my theories will be right.
Sorry, this is an MMORPG, not an RPG. The game never ends. Just like how KMS is now saying "ohai the Balrog NEVER DIED WAHAHA!", so too can Nexon go "THE BLACK MAGICIAN WAS ACTUALLY AN APPRENTICE" or "THE BLACK MAGICIAN WAS A VERSALIAN SOLDIER" or something like that. The company can and will create anything it needs to continue a story as long as there's interest in playing the story.

I took the liberty of contacting some Beran Horntail groups and told them you'd be more than willing to be an HB-less seduce mule on your Corsair throughout the run. They'd like you to go with them soon and enter as the primary mule for the main room battle. Since you can, of course, take a hit from buffed Horntail legs.
/sarcasm
Don't give me that bullsh it. Not every class was designed to survive damage dealt from every monster in the game. That's not a "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG" error, but a controversial issue regarding the very fabric of the game itself.
If you want to throw around such comments, make sure you're playing a 30k base HP Hero with max Achilles. Then maybe we'll take them seriously.

I can't take a hit from Horntail's legs. So obviously, I shouldn't be fighting them. The solution to every problem is not OH ADD HP UNTIL YOU CAN SURVIVE IT. Every class is designed to survive damage from what they cannot avoid. Things that kill you in one hit exist so that you can't fight them in the way that is getting you killed.
Your example of me suiciding at Horntail is exactly the opposite of what should be happening. If I was a 30k base HP hero, then what I said would be retarded, because I would be able to survive anything. I accept my HP as a limitation of my class (and my level), and I don't try to do things that my class isn't able to do, like tank 10k damage.

I'd like it if this were true, but I think you're giving the designers way too much credit. Look at how they won't change PB. And besides, I have the spare money to throw at the game, so why not take both damage and HP? It's alright if you don't have the spare money though because, as you said, it's not necessary (for most things).

PB is the only example of a boss where what I said doesn't apply. Everything else is a World Tour boss (bad design by local version). And even PB is maybe? designed to be survivable without anyone adding anything to HP except through gear. It's only unrealistic in that most people aren't capable of dodging attacks that 1hko you while a lot of things are going on at once for an hour straight.

I think the dev team was attacking PB and stopped attacking it after two hits from its damage reflect thinking "If they stop attacking as soon as they notice, it'll be fine." When in reality that would just kill you immediately, as well as PB's other 3 attacks that can kill you immediately.
And don't you remember the HP stuff I posted in the HP for PB thread? Even warriors can't survive PB without HP washing. I don't even know how they expect classes like Shadowers and Buccaneers to be there.

Yeah, I agree that PB is horribly designed, and that damage reflect is the stupidest monster buff in the game.I still don't think that the answer is to buy into this setup. Nexon's next boss: 29,999 damage unless you stand in the corner of the screen.
Warriors can survive if they don't take touch damage, as unlikely as that is.

What makes luk, or dex, better than HP though?
As a NL I can either jump over an attack (works if the attack is a projectile or area-based), tank it with avoid (guaranteed to fail at least 5% of the time), stay out of range (easy with physical attacks, a bit more difficult with PB's big bang) or glue it down with Shadow Web (cancelled as soon as I attack again).
Or I can have enough HP, and just use a pot when I get hit. Works on every attack, requires very little skill, and just means I have less luk. At this point, 20 luk is a matter of 3% difference in damage. That's definitely not big enough to affect whether I can kill something or not. But when it's the difference from 3800 to 4100 hp, and the monster does 3900-4000, it's giving me a massive boost in survivability.
I guess I just don't see why "add more HP" is not a valid way to avoid getting killed, while jumping around, casting ice/stun attacks etc. is acceptable. You probably lose more damage by using Blizzard at Oblivion maps to avoid taking magic damage than you would by dumping points into HP and tanking everything. But if you don't get the HP, you're stuck keeping everything frozen unless you don't want to train there until high 15x or something.

I cast blizzard, actually, to make it so that they dont attack me while charging pierce. If I get hit as I release, then nothing happens (which is BS) so Id rather just have them frozen to not have to deal with it.

I'm not saying you shouldn't add more HP under the current system. I'm not trying to force anyone to do anything (not like I'd be able to anyway). I'm saying that I think the system should be changed.
As long as they let you add points to HP, go for it. I would be happy if they didn't though.

PK, if I understand correctly, is a system in which players can kill each other, with a penalty. Or at least, it's like that in other games.
It's gonna be something really annoying, I guess.
