Evan Coming 12/17 tomorrow // and .... more Q/A

Dusk Wrote:I don't think HP/MP should be adjustable stats at all. Make do with the HP you're given. It's enough.
I don't see what's wrong with allowing people to sacrifice damage for more HP, as long as it's a reasonable ratio.

HP washing is silly though. Too bad there's no fair way to remove it.

Combattente Wrote:To me, the Black Magician is obviously going to be the ultimate boss. Maybe he won't have a time limit (which I doubt), but he's still going to be the final boss, which ends the game's storyline.

It looks pretty obvious to me that, if they made such a cute being like Pink Bean so powerful, they did it purposely, to make us understand that, if such a cute being is so powerful, then the Black Magician, who's a monstrous being, will probably be a lot more powerful than it. Which means an even more "almost-impossible-to-defeat" boss, the final one.

That's what I'm thinking the Black Magician will be. An even more epic fight against death. Hopefully my theories will be right.

I really doubt it. People play through a story to see the end. Beating the black magician means then end of the current story, and while it shouldn't be handed to you, it should be reasonable. This is a basic concept in almost every game ever created. There is no doubt that it will be a tough battle but it's very unlikely that it will be a near-impossible one.

On the other hand, optional bosses like Pink Bean are created primarily for challenge. They're meant to push you to your limits... but they're not necessary. You're not going to see or learn anything (or much) about maple from defeating the pink bean, so you don't lose anything by not beating it. If you do beat it, it's a title you can wear proudly.

Think Ruby/Emerald Weapons in Final Fantasy 7, or Ozma in Final Fantasy 9. There are many other optional bosses like this, but those are ones people will recognize and are a valid comparison. (Although since everything in console games is bound by limitations, a good strategy can allow anyone to beat them.)

So yeah. Black Magician = Sephiroth, Pink Bean = Weapon.

I believe there is a quest that needs you to kill PB, which will probably explain more of the story behind the WigglyTOUGH.

Because it's a stupid stat to adjust. HP is a limitation that prevents ranged classes from walking into Zakum's body and keeps other ridiculous things from happening.

It also reinforces level limitations.

Which begs the question why hasn't anyone extracted the info about it yet.

I found the quest in that post a while back. I assumed that the info was left blank because nobody had beaten the Bean. :f6:

Perhaps it's all a lie?

Optional bosses sometimes have their own stories (uh... anyone played Dragon Quest 8? There's a bunch of dragons you can beat after you beat the game that have a little bit of story. Probably not the best example because PART of this is necessary for the good ending but a bunch of the dragon challenges aren't.) but again, it's not necessary for the main story. Some games just like to raise the appeal of the extra bosses by bringing them to life with a tale.

It is confimred I believe that Pink Bean was a failed attempt at bringing the Black Mage back from the dead. Doesn't that make him part of the normal storyline as it is?

Quote:rebirthed char start at level 0 and needs 5 times more exp to level per level after rebirth...that'll balance out
>Implying needing 5x exp to level

Yeah, 5 times the exp to level will never cost you more in x2 than hp washing wouldTongue.

Not to mention.
[3 skills of choice from the previous job]
Is a bad idea, there are too many broken combinations with this, the jobs are limited to certain skills for good reason.

like i said there must be a trade off for rebirthing so not every char should rebirth...

but after rebirth u are basically 25% stronger than the non rebirthed

A refresh of the maps in Victoria sounds nice. It looks so dated now. Well that is if they mean a graphical refresh and not another lets change a few maps a little bit and move all the monsters around again.

The fact is that you could abuse it to the point of making yourself impossibly powerful.

Bishop -> Warrior
Keeps: Holy Symbol, Genesis, and Magic Guard, as well as a large number of MP.
Gains: HP Increase, Regular Bossing Abilities, and Overall Perfection.

No. It means he's a horrible bi-product of the story. Just like the Weapons in Final Fantasy 7 were a bi-product of Sephiroth's revival. Just because it's a result of something that happens in the story doesn't make it a main focus of the story.

no warrior can't use genesis because it is int based

unless u give up brandish...

u can always change a bit so that u can only get 1 skill from the pre-rebirth job

I'd add INT as a Warrior if I had Genesis at level 1.
Epic HP. <3

Dusk Wrote:Because it's a stupid stat to adjust. HP is a limitation that prevents ranged classes from walking into Zakum's body and keeps other ridiculous things from happening.

Other games call it CON or similar, and the only reason it's ridiculous right now is because of HP washing.

If having 5000 extra HP on your ranged class meant a drop of 250 AP, then you would be losing out on damage for the benefit of doing ridiculous things like walking on Zakum. Instead, it just means you spent a lot on int gear or NX.

And yes, there's an easy way to fix HP washing, but it'll make a lot of people mad (the ones who spent money on it)
1) reset all AP out of HP on all characters
2) re-generate character HP from level 1, based on normal gains.
3) (spend AP back into HP on those characters that had real points in HP, because Nexon hates givin out free resets)
The only tricky part is the 2 classes that get a skill HP-increase. But there's a fairly standard build in that respect (get them ASAP) which could be used when generating the HP values.

No. I rather have no content at all than content I can't enjoy without making a new character.

Does it really matter? They both affect you the same way.
