One for the girls.

Hey girls, me and my friend were debating this last night. Imagine this situation. You're at some fancy restaurant with the love of your life, and he is about to propose to you. A waiter and a musician walk out of the kitchen. While the waiter pours you wine, the musician starts to play some music. Despite getting over how incredibly cheesy the situation is, which instrument would you find more romantic?

EDIT: Ignore problems with mobility. Several high class restaurants have a piano in them. Ignore skill level of the instrument, because you can't really comment until you have played both for at least a year. The question is which would sound more romantic to you?

I always loved the sound of a violin.

Also, a violinist could easily walk up to your table and start playing specifically for the both of you. You can't exactly do that with a piano.

I'd say piano because it takes a lot more skill playing 5-10 notes at the same time rather than playing one. However, you can't exactly pop out a piano at any given moment, so the violin is really the only way to accomplish what you had described.

Although you could try singing for her. Write your own song for her and you'll give her the impression that she means quite a lot to you for you to be devoting time to writing songs for her.

I vote for a cello! That is the most romantic sound of any instrument. Not too high pitched, perfectly baratone.

While both are really beautiful instruments already, I think I would prefer a solo piano. You'd just have to have a piano already available, and hopefully nearby.

My fiance's like, a violinist with letters and everything, but I think I prefer the piano sound, lol.

Funny story. When he proposed to me, he took me to the top of a mountain (I dislike climbing anything) on a sunny day (I'm temperature and photosensitive and hate the sun). I still said yes. I think when you propose, all the hard work is supposed to have already been done... Not that you shouldn't make it special if that's what goes for your girl

i always figure the piano would be the choice if it only came down to sound. mainly because it uses percussion (i also know its made with strings) so it can be more of a background music, which is great for dates in general. if the date was the music like a concert, i think the violin will win out just because its creates such attention grabbing sounds.

overall i think the best instrument would be the clarinet =3, portable and soft.

I dunno. My sister plays the piano and violin full-on. Personally, I dislike the E string... It's just too high-pitched for me and makes my ears freaking hurt. I'm a piano and viola player; I prefer the C string. Maybe a... Trio? Violin, Viola, Cello... and uh... a Piano for background?

Yes, a violin and piano duet. I play violin at University, so I'm kinda biased towards it =P, but I can also play a bit of piano. I just find that you can get a lot more out of a violin ie. a piano can be loud or a piano can be quiet. With a violin you can have vibrato, there are different ways of playing it and such. Oh and I play viola too =P I also love the C string, the low sound is great. I can't play cello though =( but I would love to learn.

If I were in such a situation, I'd probably walk over to the piano and play something I wrote myself, lol. Then again, Im a person who'd sometimes go over to public pianos and play things I compose anyways, lol >_>

OMGGGGGG I HAVE FINALLY FOUND ANOTHER MUSIC MAJOR! I don't know any others in MS and only one in RL! We should so totally be friends.

Hahaha, this reminds me of a time when I was helping a friend propose. He was a music major (vocal performance & education), and wrote a barbershop quartet piece to propose marriage. He said the hardest part to write was my part since I was the bass. He hates figuring out which notes to double according to proper music theory and the copious amount of seventh chords in Barbershop don't make it any easier. But she said yes, so it was fun.

If I had tits I'd go for the piano.
