His rushing forward attack does KB and hits you with his full touch, and hits the 2nd platform, and he can hit again as he flies back. Then he can just sit there and roar in fornt of him a good 2x times, and he stuns you a lot by doing that, and right afterwards he kept doing his rushing skill, so our ranged stood no chance in hell.

Why did no one know Scarlion/Targa do ludicrous damage? It's 8k max damage from form 3. Yes it hits harder than Horntail if you are talking about taking unavoidable hits for ranged.

We knew it hits a lot. We took down Scarlion easy, but my Pally friends wouldn't believe me that Scarly was fire weak, so they kept using holy. Once the ranged saw what the rush attack looked like, they started getting good at running back once they saw it start coming forward. It was really just the nonstop stun + the rush right after that killed them.

Which is why it's almost the same as being inevitably hit. Might as well ensure survival by having over 8k HP with Hyperbody. Well unless they can afford multiple charms and Wheel of Desinties for each attempt, which I doubt.
