Quote:Voyager 2 was launched 33 years ago and currently remains on course, traveling out of the solar system. It is currently 8.6 billion miles (13.8 billion km) from Earth, passing through the heliosphere, a magnetic bubble that surrounds our solar system. It continues to transmit data, even as it passes through this volatile region.
However, three weeks ago the probe started transmitting garbled messages to Earth. NASA program administrators put the spacecraft in an engineering mode, restricting it to only sending health updates to Earth, while they diagnosed the issue.
It turns out the problem was caused by a single bit in the probe's memory that had flipped . . . it's unclear exactly what caused the bit flip instance.
Awesome.

They'll puncture the magnetic bubble that surrounds our solar system and the world will end on 2012 with it.

Serious face: It'll probably be there before 2012. :O
EDIT: Ok, maybe not.
\cough/
Our solar system will go pop! like a bubble.

we first need to (actually) go to the moon (again), then we can start thinking of outer-space travel...
once we find a suitable form of transportation.

If by actually, you mean for more than 3 days, and with newer technology than we had back then, then yes, we do need to.

i was referring to conspiracy theorists that say the moon landing was staged.

I was being serious in case you actually believe it was staged.

what i think is irrelevant. i addressed the argument fairly by acknowledging that some people think it was staged, and some think it was legitimate.
myself? I don't give a damned care because theres too many issues with the planet as is to be worrying about a satellite in orbit around it, and the getting to there. first we need to address the issue with pollution and the climates change that is being caused by it.
though i agree with mister/doctor Hawking in that we need to start making plans to get into space, colonially.

Aw, I expected to get somewhere with the sombrero link.
We'd benefit in pretty much every way by expanding into space. For every dollar the government invests in space technology, they get about 7 dollars back because of the consumer products that are created and mass produced due to the space technology created.
We get to learn more about our origins and our future, and about our universe in general, such as the possibility of a multiverse, or parallel universes. Of course this list goes on, who has the time?
/Off-topic...It's 2 AM and I'm still reading Wiki pages about the universe.
