Well, I've had a whole pomegranateload of problems with my built comp since about a year and a half ago when my file hard drive went kaput. The initial set-up (stupidly) was as follows:
300 GB Internal:
C Drive - Windows Exclusive, 40 GB
D Drive - Program Files and all that Jazz, 260 GB
500 GB Internal:
F Drive - All Documents and Saved Series, 300 GB
G Drive - Backup (I'll never understand why I thought this would work
; what with being on the same physical drive and all), 200 GB
So, like I said, the 500 GB died on me and I lost everything up to that point which was a disappointment and at the time, I could not afford to purchase another drive, so I just started using the Program Files Partition for all my files in the meantime.
Fast forward to now, and I've run into a major issue. The initial 15 GB of Windows has overtaken the 40 GB set aside for it. My computer is regularly crashing now and for some reason prior to crashes it says it has under 200 Megs remaining, yet after it somehow manages to have close to 7 GB remaining. I think I'm running into memory leak issues or something here as nothing seems to be missing after the crashes :f6:.
Regardless, since I'm still on a budget I can't fully complete the update and replace the internal drives just yet. I have just under 200$ to devote to this project, so it has to be within that range. So in the meanwhile, I plan on reformatting the drive and adjusting the partitions to last me until later in the year.
To do this, I would like to purchase an External HD just above 100 GB in size to back everything up; of course, there is no real upper limit to the size I buy other than cost. My future set up will have the Windows/Program Files Partition on the same drive, a drive used exclusively for my files, and this same backup drive used as a backup permanently.
Because of the manner I wish to backup stuff (all at once at first), I would like to have the SATA2 cable attachment as an option, while using USB connections to update my backups later down the road.
I do have a bit of an overheating issue here as well, so I'd hope it could handle a decent bit of heat until I get to updating the main box's cooling system.

Vista Ultimate 64-Bit
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
3 GB Ram = 2x 512 Meg + 2x 1 GB
tl;dr I need an external drive with the following:
-100+ GB
-SATA2/USB Compatibility
-Reliable
-Somewhat heat resistant
-Under 200$
So, anyone here have a suggestion on which drive I should buy?

), but I'd suggest an e-sata external case (if your system supports that) + a 1T sata drive (or however much you can afford).
