#1
hi! if this belongs in the music section please move it thank you, i thought it was more appropriate here

i am curious. Smile so i will ask. how do you guys usually listen to music?

i usually pick one song and listen to it over and over and over again for days at a time. yay for hibernate function. i generally don't listen to entire playlists. (is this everyone else's experience?)

If I find a new artist/album/song I really like, I'll listen to it for a while (weeks). Then I switch back to what I used to listen to in a large, randomized playlist. I also enjoy tapping to the drum beats.

Most of the time when I get a new song/track/album I keep playing it until most of it has been heard as much as most other tracks and then I switch back to the Random Play All function.

I do that too, but more like... all day Cool Some people don't like it though. Goggleemoticon

I listen to John Frusciante's "The Empyrean" album on earphones or with speakers turned up really loud when I feel like I need a...deeper listen. Everything else is usually just me shuffling all the songs in my library.

I have all my favorites in a playlist, make it shuffle, then if I start skipping a song, I take it off the list. O:
If I find a new song I REALLY like, I'll listen to it for daaaays. And only that song.
then I get extremely sick of it and don't have to buy it. xD;
If I don't get sick of it after a week, I figure I really do love the song and I buy it/get it from a friend. <3

whenever I get a new album I always listen to it all the way at least one time.. if I find there are songs that I don't like or songs that I absolutely love, I'll crop the playlist down a little bit, otherwise I'll keep listening to the album. every now and then I'll find a song that's just perfect and I'll have it on repeat for weeks and weeks.. the last song that I did this with, I listened to 517 times (about 35 hours total, based on my last.fm profile) and I'm still not sick of it.

when I don't have anything new to listen to, I typically have to find a certain artist or genre from my collection that fits the mood I'm in and listen to that. I can't stand "messy" playlists that have all of the different stuff mixed together, set to random.. I listen to just about all types of music, but listening to them mixed together in the same sitting is very weird to me. I can't do huge playlists set to random/shuffle.

I'm very picky when it comes to my music listening habits, but not with the music itself.. lol

When I first get a new album, I listen to the entire thing. I find my favorite songs of the album, put them on repeat. Usually I listen to them for a few days and move on and put them into my playlist and randomize the playlist again.

I have different ways to listen to music. Like in my car I have a certain play list, a different one for when i'm studying, a different one for working out.

I organize my music into playlist based on genre, language, and/or sound. Then I put my playlist on random.

For new music I just put it on loop for hours on end.

Step 1: Use pandora/friends to get new bands.
Step 2: Last.fm to find popular songs for that band.
Step 3: Get songs.
Step 4: Put songs in a new playlist on iTunes, listen to it for an hour or so.
Step 5: Put songs i like in a playlist full of my favorite songs.

Rinse and repeat.

Usually it's pretty hard to find new good metal bands though. I usually just find more songs by the bands i already have, for example, i just downloaded a bunch of songs from children of bodom and i'm in love with them all over again.

Haha, I just download random albums that match the genre I'm looking for from Z-Degrees and listen to the entire thing since I don't know any of the songs usually anyway.

For American English music I already know what I like so I just go right for those songs and listen to them over and over until I pretty much hate it. :>

mmmmmmmm interesting to read Smile thanks for the replies

i guess i am wondering because i actually find it frustrating and annoying to listen to a playlist that keeps changing, especially a big playlist with lots of variation...like i was just getting into the song and then it changes to a completely different emotion. i guess kinda like blitzkreig! except i'm picky about my music too, lol. i think for the last 5 months i have only listened to two artists in total, and seldom in a playlist, usually only if i am in my fiance's car i guess.

that said, if i have his ipod i will choose the same song on repeat every time... i think i've chosen the same song for the last 2 weeks now heh

uhhhhhh
i also have recurring tinnitus and songs in my head that last through multiple sleeps. maybe that's got to do with it too!

still welcoming others' thoughts Smile

Sometimes I feel like listening to a particular artist or genre, so I put that in a shuffled playlist. When I want to listen to something new I usually rely on friend's suggestions or as mentioned before, Pandora. It's not too hard for me to find something new to listen to though since I listen to a huge range of things. Sometimes I can listen to a song on repeat for ages, depending on how much I like that song. Shine

Pandora and itune's 'music finder' thingy (the name escapes me) are my friends. I find alot of new stuff just by searching "What sounds like Damien Marley".
As for how I listen, i tend to blast through three or more pairs of headphones every few months because I destroy them with a mix of deathmetal and reggae.
