Quote:We are not amused.
Jeans sold at the UK store Madhouse made headlines this week after British journalist Emma Barnett picked up her boyfriend's jeans while tidying the house.
On the washing-instructions tag, she read "machine wash warm." Under that was the washing advice that would quickly set off a Twitter firestorm:
"OR — GIVE IT TO YOUR WOMAN, IT'S HER JOB."

Don't really know what to think of this, honestly. I wonder why they even put that there? o.o

it's just a joke geez. Some people are so sensitive

If mobil1 printed "Instruction on doing your oil change - get your man to do it" on their oil filters, guys wouldn't be making a fit over it.

Sexist Jeans - FenixR - 2012-03-17

Comic Relief. But of course pomegranate always get blown out of proportion.

Either that or they are real Sexist, who the pineapple knows.

Sexist Jeans - happylight - 2012-03-17

I laughed.

Funny how no matter which gender is in the joke, the women always get offended. Apparently they just don't want to do anything but don't want to rely on other people either.

Sexist Jeans - Mazz - 2012-03-17

Hahaha. So good.

Sexist Jeans - Sarah - 2012-03-17

This is hilarious.

Also about the oil cap thing: Women would be offended by that.

Sexist Jeans - Razmos - 2012-03-17

As a man, i'm offended that i'm being stereotyped as a lazy sexist pig Sad

Sexist Jeans - Words - 2012-03-17

sooooo many dislikes wow. 2 guesses who the majority of the dislikes come from

Sexist Jeans - Sorien - 2012-03-18

The absurdity on both ends just boggles my mind. The lady for being so offended, and the jeans manufacturer (or whoever makes the labels) for being so unbelievably stupid.

Sexist Jeans - Worthyness - 2012-03-18

LOL. If ever I worked in a sweatshop/jean factory, I would sew that label on too just to mess with stupid overly sensitive people.

Sexist Jeans - Shidoshi - 2012-03-22

I think it's a touchy topic and attempts at humor are generally expected to offend people.

Imagine if KFC printed on their boxes "Made specially for black people", it wouldn't be really nice either.

Sexist Jeans - FrozNlite - 2012-03-22

Or those of you claiming the group offended are overly "sensitive" are actually overly insensitive yourselves.

The bottom line is no one has the same lived experiences, and thus none of us can expect to empathize with those who truly, justifiably take offense to something like this. It's ignorant to simply classify one marginalized identity's reaction as "overly sensitive" when you are not yourself a member of that identity. And for those who are (e.g. the women in this thread saying the same thing), it's still ignorant to group all members of your identity into the same reactionary group to something offensive like this tag.

Have a little respect. And to the women in this thread, for yourselves even! Because not every cis-gendered male-identified person on this planet would look at this and recognize it as a joke. Many probably view it as evidence to continue blatant sexism, so by supporting this "as a joke" you're essentially supporting some douchebag guy down the line treating you as inferior because you're a woman.
