I have seen quite a few threads latetly (on various Maple forums) about people getting hacked - I know that some people tend to use 6 or under 10 letter passwords and they make them easy.

While this utility was also a practice on my C++ having done none for years and forgetting most of it, it's still useful - I will be using it to gen new passwords in the future so I thought I should publish it.

TO COME (after November 18th):
  • The ability to generate a look-a-like password from an entered one. E.g. "<Mu$hr0oM6!>" from "Mushroom".
  • Adding symbols which can be used.

This is a picture:

This is the download portal:
http://illusionarygamers.com/msprojects/PWG/index.html

All relavent information is there, source code, scans, downloads etc...

I will make a GUI version when I get back into C++ and learn some more.

Cheers,

Fluidz

No symbols? Those passwords aren't that great really, and very hard to remember. You should make something like this:
- add a database of maple-related words
- add a database of letters to symbols/numbers/capitals substitutions
- add a database of filler expressions

It could work like this:
1) Take a random maplerelated word: Example "mushroom"
2) Randomly apply 2-4 letter substitutions: "Mu$hr0oM"
3) Fill the remaining pw length requirement with filler expressions: "<Mu$hr0oM6!>"

There you go, an easy to remember but still strong and random password =]

I didn't include symbols because you aren't allowed them - unless that has been changed.

The whole point of a password being secure it is being as long and complex as possible, write them down.

Having a 6 word, all lower case password of your pets name is half the reason people get brute forced. They are easy. These are not.

They allow using "!" at least.

Most of the hacked accounts are not a result of broken passwords. An easier method would to take the common words you suggested and reposition your hands as you type it EG Cat->Fq6

These are hard to remember. An example like the above is easy to remember but hard to guess.

I like the idea of taking a small sentence and making it a password. Something like "I_Like_#5!" is a 12 character, hard to brute-force password, but very easy to remember.

Also, special characters are definitely allowed because when there was big time hacking going on last year I locked my accounts by putting an umlaut over one of the characters.

Guys is it really necessary to post the same thread, then the same reply, and then the same re-reply to two forums?

I usually think of a word and then make special characters for the word so it's easy to remember

If my password was schoolbus I would rewrite it like ScHO0LBuS?!

after using it a few times I just remember how each character is made

Lolno, why wouldn't they be allowed xD SOME aren't allowed. I tried a ยต in my password once but that didn't work. But !"#$%&_()'[]<>'?^ are verified by me to all work perfectly.

Still it's nice to have something to remember easely. All my passwords are "<Mu$hr0oM6!>"-lookalikes. I'm even unafraid to tell they're non-existing words like "Shwoopers" to make it even harder to crack. It's easy to remember and still uncrackable.

Did you even read my post? I didn't suggest "mushroom" as a pasword, but "<Mu$hr0oM6!>". So why not take your cat's name as a base for your password? As long as you secure it good enough with substitutions and fillers, it'll be uncrackable.

I'm just giving you some ideas and feedback. Don't discard it so fast just because it is negative Smile

My main password includes symbols but I don't know exactly what's allowed. Think basic punctuation and shift+numbers though (.,;:-_!@#$%^&*)

The main limit on Maple passwords is that they can't be over 12 characters.

[RELEASE] MapleStory Password Generator! - Fluidz - 2011-11-04

I will add those special characters in after my exams and do some tool that generates a "look-a-like" password then.

They can be really long now. Way more than 12 characters.

[RELEASE] MapleStory Password Generator! - Fluidz - 2011-11-04

Can anyone confirm the list of special characters allowed?

.,;:-_!@#$%^&* and some more I presume?

When I changed my password recently it asked for a new password 6-64 characters long, lol. What kind of insane person would have a 64-character password Confused

Me. I'm pretty sure Locked's password is also quite long.
