Trouble when running game. - PikaTea - 2010-06-15

Hello everyone!

(I'm from Asia, and I know my English is very bad, so I'll try to explain my problem as simple as possible, pls forgive me if my typing take too many errors +_+. I hope you can help me. Thank all you very much.)

- I'm newbie at GMS, in fact, I 've never played GMS. But I play MS for about 2 years (VietNamMS).Now I wanna join GMS, coz the VietNamMS will close soon, at September 2010, and VietNamMS is dying now.

- I 've done all the things, like downloading the client and some other program. But when I run the GMS client, my screen get all black, despite that I still hear the game's music and "the sound when open next page in MS" when I left click randomly. I know, that's mean MS in running, but for some reason that my monitor didnt show anything. Maybe, some of you will think that problem can be solved easy with running the file Setup in the game folder and I'm really a big noob. But, I swear that I had solved that thing many many times b4, when I played VietNamMS. The problem is it didnt work this time, with GMS. (I tried to run the Setup file many time, with the setting at 72, 75 and 85 ... still not work, and I give up).

- So, I came here to ask for help. The only clue I have, is that I couldnt install the directx file which I download from main page. You know, I dunt know much about software either. But my computer already has the directx 9.0 for sure, and when I had got this problem I tried to download some other version of directx (the lastest version, I think), and still nothing changed.

- I think you can help me by explaining to me the different between GMS and others (coz some of you might get this problem b4). Or, you can give me more question to let me explain my problem clearly. At last, pls direct me to some where else to ask for help T__________T.

Thank you very much.

What do you mean by running the setup in the folder?

If you can run Vietnam MS, you should be able to run GMS. Do you get any error codes?

Trouble when running game. - Corn - 2010-06-15

You could always try redownloading the game. Make sure you delete EVERYTHING before restarting.

Trouble when running game. - Five Second Pose - 2010-06-15

Did you completely uninstall Vietnam MS first?

Trouble when running game. - PikaTea - 2010-06-16

@Locked: The Setup file is used to solve problems like mine. But this time it didnt work. No error code.

@ClawofBeta: I'll try that thing as my last choice, coz the download time is too long (and the MSSetupv85 seem work well). Thank you anyway!

@Rayquaza2233: THank you. Maybe it's my problem, I didnt uninstall VietNamMS from the beginning. Now I did it, and I will try to reinstall GMS client. I hope it'll work, so I wont bother all you anymore.

One more time, thank all you from my heart.

It's not a bother to post something like this at all, so don't feel like you're bothering anyone. Also, I understand Vietnamese and can speak it fluently, so if you need anything, you can feel free to private message and I'd help too if I can. Good luck to you!

I already uninstalled VMS. Then I un-installed GMS too, and tried re-install it.
Everything work well, except the result. I still couldnt see anything when running game, but I also could hear the game's music. It' s the same as b4 Frown

I did all this today:
- Remove VMS, GMS client.
- Reinstall Window XP (with completely format the C-hard-disk-driver)
- Install driver for sound card and graphic card.
- Install directx lastest version (June 2010).
- Install flash player.
- Install GMS client.
- Update the new patch.

...and all I got is a black-screen once again T___T. I still could hear the game music, I tried run the Setup file in game folder few times, and it didnt work either.

I think I'll got mad with this... I wanna play GMS so much, can anyone pls help me? Did I forget anything? Or I did anything wrong?

@Omni: Thank you so much! My graphic card is NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with 1G RAM (I know, my computer is out-model, but I cant buy a better one now >_<). Very glad to meet you here, but I think we should use VietNamese in another place, since everyone use English here. (I'm cursing my English now.. lol)

Yeah, I wonder if it's your RAM memory, because 1GB won't run anything these days. Even with 2GB on my laptop, my MapleStory used to lag atrociously. NVIDIA GeForce, well, I think I have another version, but I basically have the same brand, and it's not that great. That might constitute two reasons as to why you are having problems. I wonder if it's possibly an IP block as well.. but it can't be that if you can hear the game's music, so perhaps it IS your memory and graphics-card.

Also, if I may ask, why do you want to play gMS so much? Any specific reasons aside from vMS closing down?

Trouble when running game. - PikaTea - 2010-06-16

But, this is MapleStory not Aion, and the recommended setting for RAM is only 256MB =.= . The the sound when running game told me that the game is running, so the error cant come from RAM. I think this is about the graphics card, the monitor display, or something like that. But I dunt know how to fix it. That the reason I came here and ask for help, coz I think some of you might get this problem b4.
The Setup file in game folder, as I know, is used in some case like this, and most of the time it work (at least at VMS). But I dunt know why it didnt work with GMS.

Now VMS hasnt been closed yet, but most of Vmapler has stopped playing. Coz the notification came so suddently, right after a big event for Top-player. We have done all our best (alot of time, alot of cash), and now they just say VMS will be closed soon. We all feel that we 're betrayed.
I love maple, for sure. And I used to play MS everyday, it's one part of my life (my GF too, we've been playing MS together). I also hear good about Nexon (not like the company produce VMS), so I hope I can start all over again here. Some of my friend has played GMS already... and I cant wait any longer T_________T

I run the game brilliantly on my desktop, and it has 1 GB of RAM and an onboard graphics card. I doubt it's either of those.

After starting the game, you get a black screen but you can still hear all the sounds at (what should be) the login screen. Furthermore, you can alt-tab to Notepad, Firefox, or some other running program. Is this correct?

--> If yes, then maybe the game is trying to run at a (vertical) refresh rate unsupported by your monitor. So you'll need to determine that and enter that into the game's setup program. Consult your monitor's user manual for this information. (Or you could just blindly try 60 Hz for (vertical) refresh rate -- which could work because 60 Hz is the default for the Windows XP desktop.)

--> If no, then I really have no clue. Any idea is just grasping at straws.

This sounds very strange. Do you know what kind of graphics card you have? You might want to update the newest drivers manually if you haven't already done that (Doesn't say if you've installed the newest drivers or not).

Anyway, update all your drivers. If that doesn't work, then for sure something's weird.

It's something to do with your graphics not set correctly. Yes, the setup file should solve your problem but it did not work for you. What's your resolution setting - 800x600 or 1024x 768? Do not set anything higher than this.

Try 800x600 mode with 16bit colors 1st to see if it work for you. Set the frequency to adapter - default or 75hz.

By the way, what's your operating system?
