Arizona's Immigration Law - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-05-02

Been in effect a few days, so what are your guys thoughts on it.

Do you feel the whole "boycott Arizona" is really justified? Do you think its not fair? Why?

Link to the law in question http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

[color="#000080"] It's f'ucking disgusting. You should burn that sheriff in hell. It's so denigrating I want to treat them like they treat mexicans. It's f'ucking ridiculous.

Ok America, take a look at Arizona: THAT is fascism. Not whatever you think health care is.

I'm disappointed that they actually passed this law into effect. I guess anyone who even looks ethnic should carry around papers or they might be hauled away!

I hate sheriff joe to death.
I'm ashamed to live in arizona.

Arizona's Immigration Law - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-05-02

Are you guys idiots or something? This law can't even be enforced UNLESS the person being checked has done something to warrant them being stopped in the first place. That means you have to commit a violation BEFORE they can ask about immigration status. On top of that, there is nothing in the law about any specific ethnicity.

Just last week, on Friday, a police officer was shot with an AK47. The shooters? Drug runners from Mexico. Does this mean Mexicans are the only ones. That are illegal immigrants? No, but the Mexican border is being used by those of middle eastern background to enter the US under assumed Hispanic names.

Racial profiling is illegal federally AND by this law.

I'll get a link to the law later on my home laptop.

Eh...no?

The law states that officers MUST stop anyone they beleive with reasonable suspicion to be in the country illegally.

That exact wording is:

Quote:FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
20
OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
21
STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
22
UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,
23
WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON.

Now tell me, is there a fundamental difference in the appearance of someone who is here illegally and someone who is not? Racial profiling is illegal, but I don't see how else police officers are going to gather "reasonable suspicion". Honestly, what's the difference here and Nazi's asking people who they think are Jewish to show their papers. Now every hispanic looking person who's driving down the road would have to be ready to be asked the same thing. So much for your country valuing freedom lol.

There's also some clause in there about how official who don't enforce this law to the fullest extent can be punished.

I think they should be cracking down on drug cartels and people smugglers not illegal immigrants.

Arizona's Immigration Law - Solarboy - 2010-05-02

That law takes racism to a whole new level.

I totally hate it.

Arizona's Immigration Law - Moonlapse - 2010-05-02

There would be no need for such a law if the federal government was actually doing their job, and enforcing immigration. Maybe this will be a wake up call to Washington to actually do their job.

Reread your quote from the law, the very first part of it says there must be lawful contact before they can ask about peoples status.

Basically, you not being opposed to illegal immigration means you would be just fine with me breaking into your house and taking what I wanted to take.

This law only reinforces the federal law, and there's nothing illegal about it, only if it laced the federal law beyond what it is now.

I actually did take some time to look up "Lawful contact" and from as far as I can gather, there is no definition for "Lawful contact" in any way or form. It could be from pulling someone over at a stop sign (I don't live in the states, but I don't think you need to be a citizen to get a driver's license?), to a police officer talking to a VICTIM or WITNESS of a crime.

Now, if the law is changed to checking the legal status of detained individuals I'm all for that. As is now, the law is riddled with potential discrimination and abuse.

And I immigrated to Canada when I was about 10, as a refugee (the manner in which I arrived would be considered illegal) and went through asylum processes to gain citizenship. Fact is, everyone in America were immigrants at some point (Save Natives) and the people who arrived there are looking for a better life not much different than your ancestors. If there were easier ways to gain access to a country I'm sure they'd embrace it, but the States seems like such an introverted self preserving country from my perspective.

Also I assume "stealing" is referring to them taking your jobs, or leeching your services without paying taxes. Well I'm sure if it were easier to get green cards, they wouldn't have a problem paying taxes. And as for jobs, I once read that the illegal workforce was a major part of the economy doing jobs that were generally not done traditionally.

Arizona's Immigration Law - Sn1perJohnE - 2010-05-03

Yes, drivers license requires citizenship.

ill add more off what you said ons lil while when I'm home.

The law was revised on Friday to clarify things, and I think there was a part where it is basically being detained, or for things such as traffic violations.

Here is a link to the full text of the law, http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

Ill update the first post to include it as well.

I can't help but laugh at page 4.

Quote:A. IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR AN OCCUPANT OF A MOTOR VEHICLE THAT IS STOPPED
6
ON A STREET, ROADWAY OR HIGHWAY TO ATTEMPT TO HIRE OR HIRE AND PICK UP
7
PASSENGERS FOR WORK AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION

Also the part about you will be punish if you know your neighbors/employees are illegal and do not report it. I know illegal immigration is a hot issue, but doesn't that scream Nazi Germany to you?

I wonder how many restaurants will actually fire their illegal workers, bottom line is the risk of a thousand dollar fine per worker still is less than the money saved by employing cheap labor.

Arizona's Immigration Law - Phoenix - 2010-05-03

You're right, which is why they want to leave. Many 3rd world countries are oppressive, I don't think lowering your standards to theirs is very viable. And in essence, america was built on immigration, to not embrace it is hypocritical.

The problem I have with deporting illegals is the fact that a lot of people either:

1) Face oppresion/will be harmed when they return.

2)Have basically spent all their money/still owe money to whatever smugglers brought them to the States. Which relates to #1 since they are in harms way.

EDIT: After reading those laws, a lot of them are in effect in some form or another in the States or even Canada. Except the right to vote for naturalized citizens.
