Something I've noticed from being in 'school', one thing I learned well. - Kawasari Mimoto - 2009-05-08 I've gained a lot of knowledge over the years, and to be honest, it was more of a moral-lesson that slapped me in the face, than anything else. After taking my CISCO (semester 4 ; WAN Enterprise) online-final exam, I got a 75.6%. I then reviewed over my overall-grade for the class, and noticed I got a 85% (B) in the class. I was quite happy, because once in my life, in a CISCO class, I got something higher than a 77%! After class was over, I had a talk with my teacher outside the class, and in the hallways. I smiled at him and said "I did quite well this semester, but I could have done much better." He smiled back and said this: "You had the potential, brother. Like I told you, on the first day of class, ON first semester, don't goof off, don't f*ck around, don't play games in my class. Don't be like ________, he's a nice guy and all, but eh... don't be like him. You have it in you. I knew you'd do well. You've changed and progressed a lot since 1st semester. I'm really proud of you, Khoi." After that, I smiled and he gave me a hug. I suddenly realized something, he sounds more like a father to me than my own father. Now, while you (as the reader) find this rather idiotic and moronic, that I said such a thing, here's why. My father always 'degrades' me and calls me dumb, or yells at me over trivial things. Where as my own teacher, does the opposite, and tries to motivate me. Here's a story of what happened to me during 2nd semester, almost causing me to flunk! Back in 2nd semester, I had to configure 3 routers and make them communicate (or talk to each other). I did not know how to configure them, as I did not know how to subnet IP addresses, causing me to stare at my computer monitor and then back and forth at my routers, I did that for a good 3 hours. My teacher came to me, and said "Are you done?". I said "I give up.. I can't.." and he looks at me and says "You have one final chance left, come back here tomorrow at 2:30 PM, your final chance. Stop goofing off." After that, I went to the cafeteria and saw a old lady (that I recognized from my class), and I asked her if she knew how to subnet. She did! So she taught me how to in less than 15 minutes. Afterwards, I went home that night and studied until 2 AM, learning every single commands for the routers, and when the next day came, I configured those 3 routers and gained a 93% for my hands-on final! My teacher is a great guy, and we'll keep in contact even after I graduate with my Associate's. Moral of the story: There is no moral, just sometimes, if you have a good teacher, he or she will kick your ass a bit to make sure you succeed in school. I learned this, quite well. I wonder if anybody else within this forum-community has experienced anything similar? [text without format.][self-thought] Y'know actually I have. The main difference with you is that my parents don't say anything. They just let me be. Either way, in high school I was a complete disaster, I had to repeat a year and all that junk. BUT, I don't really know why, most teachers loved me and always encouraged me to improve. I think that I let them down some kinda way, however, a couple of months ago I ran into one of them and he told me, ''All the teachers in the school knew how capable you were, how smart and bladidibla, so we really know you'll succeed in life, in whatever you do, you'll succeed''. I'm still wondering about it... Anyhow, I'm kind of happy feeling that despite I never studied they really encouraged me to be a great person. I dunno, I wonder if they were satisfied when I graduated :/. [/text][/self-thought] |
