Quote:What this means is that if you take a game to a friend's house and try to play the game on their system using their account, you'll need to pay. If you take it to their house and try to play it on their system using your account, you won't need to pay.

I'm aware it means nothing, it is still as bad as we thought, but well, if it was bad x 10 before some can say its bad for x 9 now?

案山子 Wrote:Nintendo can't even level the 360 or PS3 let alone compete this gen. It was only between Microsoft and Sony, and so far Microsoft completely blew it.

What makes a gaming console are prcisely that, the games. If Nintendo manages to get good games released on the Wii U at a steady pace, then even if it doesn't surpass the PS4 it will be a success on its own. Best example: Nintendo 3DS, far behind the Vita when it comes to hardware but so many good games constantly popping on it.

I cannot say I am not dissapointed in some of the choices Microsoft made with Xbox One.

Not being able to play my wide collection of 360 games sure is something that turns me away from the console.

However I am still thinking on buying it. I hope their new and old franchises can make me convinced of the new xbox one.

I was going to post about the being able to trade games etc. and taking them to your friends house and whatnot but Zelkova beat me to it. This opens up a weird bunch of possibilities. Possibilities I don't even want to talk about cause I think they'll be creepy lol.

But the used game thing is the problem. Physically it doesn't even make sense. You buy a game for $60 and then wish to sell it physically to a friend for say $30. The friend has to pay the $60 again for the game if it is still classified as new. Your friend has just paid $90 for a game instead of paying $60 for a new copy. This will kill off physical sales. But Microsoft has a plan for that they do, sell your games online through them! Yay, now you can pay only $30 for that game friend! Only where does the money go? Microsoft's pockets. What exactly does the seller get in return? Nobody knows yet. This will kill off Gamestop/EBGames and all others from buying used games unless they are all free or $5. Or they work out a deal with Microsoft somehow.

Also, Call of Duty Ghosts should really be called Call of Dog Doody.

Xbox One - Justin - 2013-05-22

I dunno, I personally feel as though backwards compatibility is nice, but not really a turnoff if it isn't included. I already have the physical systems to play the games anyway, why let it sit there and gather dust? The only logical reason to include BC is if the initial system fails.

Pretty much how the entire event unfolded by the way, stock wise:

It's still going down btw.

Microsoft is now saying the Wired article was wrong about a used game fee.

Apparently you can also only play the console offline for a day before needed to connect online again. Link

I like how this whole affair created more questions than it answered. Hope that fee thing turns out to be right. On a different note, you can own the new Xbox One today! Here's a REAL PIC of a consumer with the new Xbox!

The Kinect pomegranate gives me the chills. Reminds me too much of 1984.

Controller looks absolutely terrible, by the way.

Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) Wrote:We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One, and [we] wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail. Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios. Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house — should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile."

So we are left knowing only one fact: the games you play on Xbox One are tied to your user profile through some sort of license. What happens after that remains lost in the murkiness of PR-speak. There is apparently a fee involved should someone else buy your game at GameStop, but Microsoft is not giving a clear answer on how it will work - or if you, yourself, can somehow transfer that license to someone else... Also it sounds like your friends won't be borrowing your games from you unless you want to share your Xbox Live profile information with them...

In other words, there is only confirmation of two things. Once you install a game, it's tied into your profile. And you can play the game anywhere for free as long as you sign in your account in another Xbox One. Everything else is uncertain. This confusion is a PR disaster. Rolleyes

Indie Devs Can't Self-Publish on Xbox One
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/22/indie-devs-cant-self-publish-on-xbox-one

Quote:Independent developers wishing to get games on Xbox One's Xbox Live Arcade will still be unable to self-publish, it has been announced.

As it currently stands, indie devs must get a publishing deal with either Microsoft Games Studios or a third-party publisher to get their games on XBLA. The exception to this is titles that opt to release on Xbox Live Indie Games, though this has more financial drawbacks for developers than the more lucrative Arcade section.

Quote:But they can with Sony and Nintendo.

EDIT: Missed the post on this earlier. My apologies for the repost.

Microsoft is now saying the Wired article was wrong about a used game fee.

XboxSupport3 isn't a valid or verified Microsoft account (there's no blue checkmark) plus many publications have already stated that the used fee is true. Microsoft is just afraid to comment on it.

Edit:

It has come to my attention that @XboxSupport does overflow accounts for @XboxSupport1 to @XboxSupport12

Microsoft seems to be failing in every field now. Internet Explorer? Check. Windows Phone? Check. Windows 8? Check. Surface Tablets? Check. Xbox? Check.

I'm starting to feel bad for them...

Supposed used games plan revealed

If this is true, this is just getting... laughable. I feel like all the guys at Microsoft are going to start having dollar signs popping up in their eye sockets in true cartoon fashion. Again, if this is true, this means: money comes to them from the initial new game's purchase, said game is traded-in or sold, said game is then bought again and 90% of that game's profit goes to Microsoft/the publisher, and then you, possibly, will go home and then be required to pay an additional £35 to "own" the game, since it was used. Even if you don't have to pay the £35 if you buy the used game from retail, it is absolutely ridiculous how they are just making sure their hands are dipped into the money no matter what. They will make a profit off you in one way or another.

Xbox One - Curtiss - 2013-05-24

Unless enough people decide that they've had enough of this rubbish, you mean.

It looks like or you either buy your second hand game from a retailer for a set price (with this getting the game and since they are clearing the game from the last user account you should be able to use it) or buy it from the last user and then pay 52$ for the license. In other words: If you want to get a second hand game you have to get it from a retailer because it'd be cheaper in the long run than from another person. This will really suck for countries from South America or other parts of the world without Gamestop and places like that.

I'm seriously considering applying for a job at a local game / toy store just so I can discourage the general public from buying this thing. To me this is shaping up to be one of the the worst thing to happen to gaming in years. If Microsoft gets away with this they (and maybe everyone else) will just start pushing more and more bullshit.

Unless that is store policy, you won't have that job for very long.

Edit: Oh yeah, guys, you know those cool instant voice commands microsoft showed at the presentation?

Yeah, they might have faked the whole thing. I can't believe I'm shocked by this revelation after they did it every other time they showed kinect too.

Edit again: K nevermind, watched some of it, at least some of the commands he has his hands out of his pockets. IGN is trolling for hits, so I'm removing the link.
