First generation included 151 Pokemon. Ho-oh (truly) appeared and is included in the 100 Pokemon of the second generation.

his appearance in the first episode of the anime only proves that the pokemon 152 thru 251 were already made/being made, just not released

the anime premiered in mid 1997 in japan and G/S was first showcased also in 1997 -- as a gameboy, not gameboy color, title.
