Event AEE not so A? - Falkentyne - 2011-10-11 And LOL @ the person who called me a "Kid." I"m 40. And the 255/256 makes perfect sense, especially when you've been doing binary math for years. I've seen all sorts of funky things happen when a number reaches a certain power of 2. Gauntlet (Final version) and Gauntlet 2 suddenly "overflow" and start giving you unlimited food at 2 to the power of 31 (the same value as max meso in maplestory, minus 1), while the monster spawn generation remains frozen at maximum. Then at 2 to power of 32, the entire difficulty counter resets as if your score was zero. (I have an old Gauntlet FAQ on gamefaqs that explains this). Since 255 is the highest number that can be expressed in 8 bits, and 256 is the very next number (representing the end of that 8 bit field), who knows what is really happening. And to the poster who remembers 100%s failing back in 2006: yeah I remember hearing about that as well. I started in August 2006, and heard some people complaining about 100%'s failing to work... Event AEE not so A? - Justin - 2011-10-11 I had a 100% overall dex fail on my robe wayyy back in 06 when I made my crossbowman. I was laughing for hours. Event AEE not so A? - Kalovale - 2011-10-11 Falkentyne Wrote:stuff How do you have 256 in the first place? It is not the end of the byte; the byte ends at 255. For indisputable clarity, let's go back to first grade: First number: 0 Second number: 1 Third number: 2 2^8th number: 2^8 - 1 Perhaps my lack of binary math experience is taking its toll on me, so please enlighten me in case I'm missing something (except the fact that 256 comes right after 255, I'm well aware of that). EDIT: Allow me to make clear distinctions here, when people say they failed 100% scrolls (presumably the blue ones), did you see the failure animation or did your total bonus stats end up one below the expected value? Because the latter does not imply the earlier and I surely have seen it happen myself. Event AEE not so A? - Dark Link - 2011-10-11 Falkentyne Wrote:And LOL @ the person who called me a "Kid." I"m 40. And LOL @ you calling me a "Teenager". I'm 23, thanks. You stereotype us, I'll stereotype you. Also, I didn't realize we were in 2006. I'm sorry, I must have missed the memo. Still not seeing proof besides someone claiming to be a math wiz and saying they know what they are talking about. Event AEE not so A? - Veneni - 2011-10-12 Someone should test this. If you use 589 scrolls there's a 90% chance one will fail if the succes rate is indeed only 99.61%. Should only cost you about 30m in 100% dex scrolls and lv8 mage overalls. GO!!!
Event AEE not so A? - Veneni - 2011-10-12 wtp lag double post? That's a first time. Event AEE not so A? - Mario - 2011-10-12 Falkentyne Wrote:And LOL @ the person who called me a "Kid." I"m 40. 40 playing MS. I don't even... Regarding the 2006 comment. Why are we discussing 2006 in the first place? OT: This is proven false. Just a bunch of trolls. Event AEE not so A? - yo72 - 2011-10-12 I would remove the comment about age until half the user base rips you a new pimento Event AEE not so A? - CarrionCrow - 2011-10-12 Mario Wrote:40 playing MS. I don't even... Yea there is clearly a rule that says people above 20 can't play games. Oh, wait... Derpity derp-narrow minded children-herpaderp Comments in bold. Event AEE not so A? - Urvy - 2011-10-12 Careless people who bought regular enhancement scrolls?
Event AEE not so A? - BitchenCamero - 2011-10-12 Why should a 40 year old not play maplestory again? Do you think you will stop playing video games when you reach a certain age? I think not.... By the way I am 32 and plan on playing video games forever....it is how I relax. OT: Still waiting to see some proof where a first time AEE blows up an item. Event AEE not so A? - CrazyForDex - 2011-10-12 yo72 Wrote:I would remove the comment about age until half the user base rips you a new pimento As soon as I read his comment I thought this. Lol @ the idea of someone buying 600~ scrolls and testing. I'd love if someone did that. Event AEE not so A? - Dark Link - 2011-10-12 Mario Wrote:40 playing MS. I don't even... There are people in their 60s that play WoW. I don't understand how age has to do with anything. Event AEE not so A? - Stereo - 2011-10-12 bast963 Wrote:This is quite true. I believe Maple uses the same system for 100%s as the first generation Pokemon did, which is a rather outdated system.I've never seen proof of a 100% failing. If it was 0.39% chance of failure there would be tons of videos - just like the Pokemon. It's not like it would cost a lot to buy ~1000 100%s and use them until one fails on video. Maple Story is a computer game, there is absolutely zero reason for MS to use a crappy gameboy RNG that produces an 8 bit int - it would be harder to even find such a thing (because of the flaws like not being able to give 100%) than to use a proper thread-safe random function, periodically synchronized with the server. MS has plenty of "break points" where the game won't let you do anything until the server responds - healing, using pots, etc. - it would be pretty trivial to resynch by sending an extra couple bytes along with each of those packets. |
