AirStrike damage a lie? - Zenkat - 2009-03-18

It seems a lot of the gunner skills are wrong when you look at the descriptions. Burstfire and Rapidfire are not what they seem, and we've figured that out. I havent heard anything about Airstrike, however.

Airstrike starts with big numbers (520% at lvl 1), but it took til lvl 3 before i felt like testing it in HHG just to verify it. Level 3 is 560% damage (or so it says), but i was seeing hits so low that it had to be 500% or possibly even less. So what's the REAL numbers for Airstrike, does anyone know?

Level 1:
MP-31, 520%
Level 3:
MP-33, 560%

Could be the fact that you have an attack pot or something when you were using level 3.

its possible you saw a low range hit, such as 1234x560% which will be a lot smaller than 2789x560%

The damage formula isn't the same as your damage range. I think.

I heard somewhere that Air Strike ignores bullet attack.

That's the kind of answer i was looking for, it may indeed be like that and would explain the lower damage than my range would indicate. I'm not sure how to test this, as all bullets have attack on em. I guess of forgot to check if airstrike used a bullet or not.

It doesn't use a bullet, so that was my guess as well. The problem is that you can use Air Strike with any weapon equipped or no weapon at all, which is seriously confusing.

Logically, the Air Strike formula should just be the gun formula without bullets with a gun equipped. With other weapons, it's probably 0.66 times that, and I'm guessing forced stab? or maybe forced slash?

AirStrike damage a lie? - DarkestTempest - 2009-03-18

I'm pretty sure Air Strike doesn't account to bullet attack.

if you can use it without a gun or any weapon, it sounds like it's a summon formula: using your stats and the skill % in the description as a multiplier.

It's not, though, there's a clear difference in damage when you buff your attack - when I use a 20 att pot my Air Strike damage goes up by well over a thousand.

It's even more obvious if you try to Air Strike with valentine's rose or some nubby weapon equipped - I think I saw some 2-4ks with a White rose.

Yeah, my airstrikes do massive '1' damage when i put on my int wand. If i can find a way to take off all 24 sets of bullets im carrying around i can test this out. It's probably correct, but i still wanna test it.

AirStrike damage a lie? - JoeTang - 2009-03-18

Or you could, you know, calculate what your damage range is without bullets.

AirStrike damage a lie? - Winry - 2009-03-18

I have max, i should login and get numbers...except i dont feel like xfering gear.
All I know is, the damage wasnt what I was expecting out of the 1200% multiplier.
EDIT:
Bullets don't affect the watk in the multiplier and using weaker atk gear reduces the dmg further.
17k~31k without and 20k~34k with a 12atk pot.
Str: 88
Dex: 718
Total Atk: 99

Another idea: Buy some of the lvl 10 bullets and put them above all of the other bullets, as this is how Maple decides which set to take from first when it comes to arrows and Throwing stars. Presumably it's the same with bullets.

Level 10 bullets still have 10atk. I actually thought of that then realized it wasnt going to work.

Good News! I did find the formula and calculated everything without bullets. The numbers seem to add up (minimum of about 10,300 and max of around 18,500, which is exactly what i was seeing), so the conclusion is Airstrike ignores bullets. Nice work team Smile

Actually, I was just suggesting if the damage range is still the same with the 10 attack bullets as it is with the lvl 70 bullets that it'd indicate that they are not a factor in the attack formula for Airstrike. But that was ignoring the fact that there's only a 6 attack difference between the lvl 10 and lvl 70 bullets, and the difference that is seen could easily be contributed to just being unlucky.

You could have compared Bullets to Vital Bullets to see if their W. Atk bonus affected your damage or not to determine this, is what he meant, I believe.

well it makes sense that airstrike ignores bullets since you don't shoot anything out of your gun when you cast it. Does gaviota and octo ignore bullets as well? would anyone like to check on this?

Octopus and Gaviota ignores everything except your stats.

I think all skills that don't use bullets ignore bullet attack and/or mastery anyway, so it'd make sense i guess.

Gav and octo are summons, so they have their own formula.
