You might be dumb!@

A new survey doesn't quite say so. But it sure as heck suggests it.

The survey by AptiQuaint, a Vancouver-based Web consulting company, gave more than 100,000 participants an IQ test, while monitoring which browser they used to take the test.

The result? Internet Explorer users scored lower than average, while Chrome, Firefox and Safari users were slightly above average.

And users of the more obscure Camino and Opera browsers, as well as those using Explorer with Chrome Frame (a plug-in designed to let users view emerging HTML5 content), had what AptiQuaint called "exceptionally higher" IQ levels.

Those numbers, it should be noted, probably aren't very scientific. The field of test-takers was self-selecting -- people who chose, on their own, to take an IQ test instead of a scientifically selected study group. They found the test through Web searches or ads the company placed online.

The report suggests that people using Explorer, the built-in, default browser for Windows-based computers, may be more resistant to change. A similar study in 2006 showed users on the then-current IE browser scored above average.

Internet Explorer is the world's most popular browser, with about a 43% share, according to StatCounter. Firefox has just under 30%, and Google's Chrome has 19%, according to a report from May.

Users of Internet Explorer 6, released in 2001, scored the lowest on the tests, at just over 80. Users of Opera, the Norway-based browser, scored the highest at well over 120. (What AptiQuaint called its complete results included a bar graph showing the scores, but didn't appear to have text giving the exact numbers.)

IQ scores have a "population mean" of 100.

If this all smacks of a little good, old-fashioned Microsoft hate, the language the company uses in its report doesn't do much to downplay that.

"It is common knowledge that Internet Explorer Versions 6.0 to 8.0 are highly incompatible with modern web standards. In order to make websites work properly on these browsers, web developers have to spend a lot of unnecessary effort ...," said the report from AptiQuaint, which offers online tools for employers to measure employee, and potential employee, aptitude.

"Now that we have a statistical pattern on the continuous usage of incompatible browsers, better steps can be taken to eradicate this nuisance."

What do you think? Cheap shot or telling results? Let us know in the comments.

Of course not, lol.
The fact KMS' been stuck up with that "Internet Explorer only" thing is just terrible. It's painful to wait until the page fully loads so you can see it, not to mention the fact such navigator is a slow ass compared to everything out there.

I sincerely doubt anyone uses it nowadays, really. :X

I use Internet Explorer all of the time. I hardly ever use any other internet browser. I always have problems with the websites I visit on FireFox or Chrome due to the webpages being built mainly for Internet Explorer (Japanese game sites, mostly).

Forced to at work, it bugs out constantly. Using Chrome/FF5 at home.

I use Firefoxs IE tab for this.

Eh... I only tend to use FireFox for downloading media. Firefox requires too many add-ons to be decent and then becomes slow because you have those add-ons.

Then again, I'm using IE9, which is completely different from previous versions.

Edit : Oh, yeah... And my proxies don't seem to work with any browser other than Internet Explorer and I tend to need them a lot. With Firefox and Chrome, the pages stay blank forever and the loading times on pages are too slow. Then again, I may be using those wrong.

I personally use chrome, force to use IE8 at work. I hate it.

Only version of IE I am okay with is 9, anything lower is repulsive. Even then, no other web browser is giving me the customization of Firefox.

I don't use any specific web browser, really. I just tend to use FF because it's easier for me to find stuff I use - such as FireFTP, Firebug and Adblock Plus. Otherwise, all browsers look and feel more or less the same. Maybe not IE6, but anything above that works okay.

Very tempted to go over to Opera though. They have this feature which saves your bookmarks, plugins etc. on their servers, so that you can sort of "login" on a computer and get your preferred Opera-setup.

Yeah I was looking into that actually a few weeks ago. But my laptop finally croaked and it's slipped my mind until this recent article came across lol

Lmao. Strange, page loading times for me on Internet Explorer 9 are nearly instant - even on pages that have data that aren't saved in my cache.

Revision, less busy: IE8 at work [blech]. I can't fully rip it out at home and I hate it when there's a notice in the Maple gamelauncher window I hadn't read yet and I click it and it opens in IE6...ragh.
I'm using Chrome on XP instead of FF cause it boots faster and I really only use it to look something up real quick - I'm only using XP for gaming after all anyways. Only thing I don't like about it compared to FF is that even with it booting to about:blank there's like 5-6 processes that it boots, and granted they're small, but it's hard to keep track of how much memory it's eating and which process is doing what.
Still mainly use FF - I like my NoScript/Adblock and Moonside theme too much. Chrome's Adblock is...a lot harder to use it seems. Maybe I just didn't pineapple around with it long enough.

Opera definitely pioneers in a lot of things. I wonder how they manage it given their almost laughable usage share.

This survey surely enough didn't take into account people who use multiple browsers.

Opera is arguably the best browser around.

Personally, I prefer Chrome. I'm not forced to use IE at work, but I would have to because Chrome would get stuck whenever I would download profiles.

Then I decided to try Firefox for work and it works like a charm.

You use internet explorer? - Corn - 2011-07-29

Chrome is too fast Biggrin.

You use internet explorer? - WillDaSnail - 2011-07-29

IE's been a joke anyways. Never touched that piece of crap once I started using FF.

And thread title is such a troll title. xD
